Add an Activity with a Microsoft Keyboard as the device and use the keyboard shortcuts Plex uses to customize the buttons.
Hmmm… are you sure you don’t have BT in your hub? I haven’t been able to find a version of the hub that doesn’t have BT.
Harmony One remote isn’t a hub version and is ir only.
Thanks @gbooker02 and @evanars1 for responding.
I can also see in the logs:
[InputManager] Input received: source: Keyboard keycode: Media Play:1
[InputManager] No match for: Media Play
I followed the suggestion of @evanars1 and have added a Microsoft Keyboard as a device then mapped the Play and Pause buttons to the keyboard, Unfortunately, Play/Pause still not working.
Very strange that other commands like Stop and Skip Back/Forward are working correctly but not Play/Pause.
Very grateful if you have any more suggestions.
Try mapping the spacebar to the play and pause button. That should work. Good luck.
Yes!! Mapping spacebar to Play/Pause does the trick!!
Thank you so much @evanars1
Thanks for your hard work! HTPC seems to be working almost flawlessly on my setup (non-4k) however, any bitrate higher than 15 Mbps becomes choppy, pixelated, and has quite a bit of screen tearing - sorry, unsure of the correct terminology. They ran perfectly in the previous version. If I view transcoded to a lower bitrate there is no issue. This happens in both MKV and MP4 formats, if that makes a difference.
Are there any particular settings I should review regarding the higher bitrate quality?
Screensaver: works beautifully! Is there a way to have it pull from only certain libraries? Ex: how would I tell it to not pull images from a family video library or an adult-oriented library?
I did like the previous UI a bit better as the text etc. was a bit larger which is perfect for a TV screen however, HTPC looks clean and crisp and responds much faster than the previous - zero lag.
My setup:
- Windows 10 Home
- Fiber Gig Internet
- Intel NUC 10 NUC10i7FNH with 16GB RAM, 1 TB SSD and multiple 6TB or larger external HDs
- Connected to a 1080p Sony Bravia via HDMI - upgrading to 4k and projector in a few months
- Controlled by Logitech Harmony via Bluetooth to the NUC
- Plex HTPC running locally on the system - DirectPlay, no transcoding.
- Bedroom TV connected via FireTV
I just figured out the screensaver deal: only pinned libraries are included. I unpinned all but one. Waited a short while and let it run for about an hour on screensaver - only images from the single pinned source and Plex displayed.
Ditto. I am now using the built-in Bluetooth of my NUC paired with my Harmony and as you stated, other than the info overlay all works perfectly fine. Much more responsive than the Flicr dongle I was using.
Do you get any repeating images when using the Entertainment option?
Frequently. I haven’t counted but within an hour I noticed the same particular image about 4 times. The one pinned library has 1300 titles within so …
Now that my Harmony remote is working well with Plex HTPC , I have also noticed some laggy/choppy scenes even during lower bitrate TV shows (<3Mbps).
When comparing the exact same scenes, the older PMP is smoother.
I only stream local content DirectPlay and no transcoding.
Plex Server and Player is on same machine.
any update on the autoplay in a movie collection issue? thanks
Is there any solution to the play button of a Mac with MacOS Big Sur (also with a Harmony remote) when you first started Plex HTPC before playing a video? It opens Apple Music first, afther a video has been played, it will properly start a new video. Google did not help me unfortunately. Apple seems to have forced this into an automation… hmm
/edit: apparently I have to use P instead of the play media button. That seems to work.
The screensaver pulls approximately 60 images at a time evenly distributed across each of the pinned sources. After it has shown those ~60, it repeats. You can get repeats across different batches of ~60 images. In particular, if you have a source which has very few images, you likely see more repeat images from that source because it pulls the same number from each.
I have the exact same NUC that I used for testing and this morning I played a file that averages 24Mbps (peaks at 30Mbps) and it had no issues. I noticed that both of you mentioning this are running the server and the client on the same machine and that appears to be the only difference in my setup (I have a separate server). Maybe put the server on a different computer as a test, put a few pieces of media on it, and see if that makes a difference.
I don’t have a spare computer I can just install a server on so I installed HTPC for Windows onto my laptop and connected via ethernet. Same result … basically anything above 15Mbps results in massive screen tearing, etc.
Opened up Plex Player on the laptop … no issue. Opened Plex Player on the NUC … no issue. There is ample bandwidth between the clients and the server - obviously for the NUC as it is local. As a side note, the FireTV Stick has no issue with the higher bitrates but will usually transcode down a bit, of course. I played back the same file at 18 MBps transcoded down from 4k with no issue.
Next up, I uninstalled HTPC from my laptop and installed the latest server. The laptop is:
- Acer Aspire E5-571P-59QA Intel i5 with 8Gb RAM (plenty enough to serve at least a few streams on a LAN)
- Connected via ethernet to the LAN
- One media file loaded … Container: MKV, 3840x1606, 22.3 Gb file size, 26.2 bps, 4K HEVC Main 10 HDR
Shut down the primary server on the NUC. Opened HTPC on the NUC to play the same file … same result. Opened Plex Player on the NUC: no issues.
Reinstalled HTPC on the laptop. Played the same file with the NUC offline … same result.
Opened Plex Player on the laptop: no issues.
So, it seems the issue is something with HTPC and my particular setup?
So far all is well as the little NUC can handle multiple transcodes without even a hiccup so I have no concerns. But in a few months when I upgrade my entertainment system to 4K I wonder if this will return. It is encouraging to know you have the same PC platform and are having zero issues. The NUC is a fantastic Windows hardware setup for Plex.
I can get up to ~15 Mbps before the choppiness sets in. Practically everything I run at home is DirectPlay, too, except for a number of 4K titles. PMP seems to handle what is thrown at it a bit soother but, the GUI with HTPC is much more snappy.
Frequently. I haven’t counted but within an hour I noticed the same particular image about 4 times. The one pinned library has 1300 titles within so …
I’ve just read from gbooker02 HTPC pulls approx 60 images evenly from each pinned source - same number from each then rotates through them. This would explain some of the repeats.
I’m using the Photos s/saver.
What happens is it repeats photos, but shows the file name of a different photo. So I always see a sequence like this:
Photo A
Photo B
Photo A (but with file name of Photo C)
Photo D (but with filer name of Photo E)
Photo A (but with filer name of Photo F)
Photo G
Photo H
Photo G (but with filer name of Photo I)
etc etc etc…Sometimes it shows the image of the TV Show or Movie that I paused before the screen saver activated
