Plex HTPC feedback

I’m not quite sure what you mean ?

HTPC shows movies and TV shows that have been added for me.

It also has the usual Recently released, Recently added categories too.

I have my PMS set up to monitor my libraries so that whenever media is added it adds the metadata to the library which HTPC then picks up.

Perhaps you meant something else.

I mean if some content is added (for example a new movie or a new tv show), it will not show up automatically in the Home screen.
If I click on the Movies tab or TV shows tab, the new movie or tv show will show up under Recently added, but if I go back to the Home page, I still won’t see it on the Home screen, not unless I close Plex HTPC and restart.

It seems Home screen content is not refreshed automatically.
I do not have that problem in PMP or Plex web.

No, I don’t have that issue at all.

New media not showing up is a function of the server side (PMS) - change the setting to autodetect and scan when new content is added.

’Run a partial scan when changes are detected’

Edit - just did a test and added 15 new TV episodes.

Watched PMS auto run the scan (it is set to detect changes to libraries).

Opened HTPC and all shows there on the Home Screen.

Strange that it happens for you and requires a restart of the app.

These bugs that happen for some and not others are a pain - send Plex the logs perhaps.

This is a side project so may not get immediate attention.

I was recording Django Unchained last night which was scheduled to finish at 01:20 this morning, so as a test I left Plex for Windows and Plex HTPC running side by side on my desktop.

As expected Plex for Windows automatically added the new recording to the Home page but Plex HTPC didn’t.

Plex for Windows

Plex HTPC

Even if I navigate between libraries, or try watching a pre-recorded film or TV show it doesn’t appear, but as soon as close Plex HTPC and re-launch it, there it is.

Like I said above I also see this behaviour with the Plex for Samsung Tizen and Plex for XBox apps - which unfortunately has been an on going issue for months :frowning:

I’m not saying there isn’t an issue.

I am saying I don’t have the issue.

Edit - oh and I never leave HTPC running. It gets closed when not in use. I have a Win key set up on our remote that opens HTPC and a key setup in Flirc that closes it when finished.

Sorry I didn’t mean to come over terse earlier - I was rushing around, trying to take screenshots, and write up my finding before I started work.

I’ve never mentioned the issue before, because I assumed it was just me - and I appreciate it would be a catch 22 situation if everyone did that

Maybe it is a DVR only issue, maybe it is a network issue, but as @ddefauville is having the issue as well I thought I would try and investigate my issue here a little more

I have an strange issue if a new episode is added to a series it shows under Continue watching. But when I select the episode it does not show up under the season. I have to wait about 5-10 min for it to show up there as well. The web client has it immediately.

I guess that explains it, glad to have that sorted out

I mostly keep HTPC running in the background and do not restart it unless I need to.

I have noticed content is definitely not updated automatically on the Home page if content was added after HTPC was started.
If I restart Plex HTPC, content will of course be refreshed but any new content will not be visible unless HTPC is restarted - which is a bit annoying.

Thanks @captain_caveman2k for confirming this has been an issue on other platforms as well.

@Moussa It seems this Home screen bug is affecting several Plex platforms including Plex HTPC, Plex Samsung Tizen and Plex XBOX. Greatly appreciated if you could forward this to the right Plex teams. Thanks in advance!

No, it updated while it was open when I did the test.

Thanks to the Plex staff for releasing version 1.10.0 with many fixes!

Over the past year, several versions of Plex HTPC have been released.
but unfortunately the display of track names in subtitles and audio tracks has not been added.
It is unfortunate that the developers ignore this request.
This feature has been added to Plex Media Player for a long time and it was very pleasing.
Unfortunately, over the past year, nothing has changed in this direction in Plex HTPC.

Thanks again to the Plex team for your efforts in developing the Plex HTPC.

The work was blocked behind several pieces including a release cycle for the UI for HTPC and for Plex for *. Those release cycles didn’t occur over the Christmas break and got delayed starting again afterwards. They have now occurred and so this work is finally unblocked. So likely the next version or the one after that.

I thought this had been added to the docs or previously mentioned here but I guess not. This is what the settings currently set:

Low Quality:
scale: bilinear
cscale: bilinear
dscale: bilinear
dither-depth: no
correct-downscaling: no
linear-downscaling: no
sigmoid-upscaling: no
deband: no

Normal Quality:
scale: spline36
cscale: spline36
dscale: spline36
dither-depth: no
correct-downscaling: no
linear-downscaling: no
sigmoid-upscaling: no
deband: no

High Quality:
scale: spline36
cscale: spline36
dscale: mitchell
dither-depth: auto
correct-downscaling: yes
linear-downscaling: yes
sigmoid-upscaling: yes
deband: yes

Maximum Quality:
scale: ewa_lanczossharp
cscale: ewa_lanczossharp
dscale: ewa_lanczossharp
dither-depth: auto
correct-downscaling: yes
linear-downscaling: yes
sigmoid-upscaling: yes
deband: yes

Hmmm, after testing for a while, all of a sudden, I now see new content without closing/restarting Plex HTPC…
Just browsing around the Home page does not refresh content but if I play any content then stop and go back to Home page, then Home page is showing new content…
A bit odd, but I’m just happy yo be able to see new content without restarting Plex HTPC

@captain_caveman2k: Perhaps this workaround will work in your environment as well?

Cheers for the tip - I thought I gave that a go this morning but I will try again when Plex records something. There isn’t anything scheduled for tonight so I might have to force a temporary recording or something

I did a search of the thread and the forum but I didn’t get a chance to read through the whole thread so pardon me if this was already brought up…

Does Plex HTPC have an option similar to “showPowerOptions” in PMP to disable the power-off/reboot/suspend options when exiting? I would rather users not have the opportunity to accidentally shutdown the system.

Not that I can find, no.

if i install 1.10.0.2819 fresh (older version wasnt installed first. i cant launch it because of an execution error because it cant load libiconv-2.dll
i tried manually registering the dll in C:\plex\plex HTPC but it says its loaded but cant find the entry point, this is with both regsvr32 and the one in syswow64, however if i install version 1.9 first and then upgrade it works no problem, just a heads up

I had the same problem when installing Plex HTPC onto a Windows PC which had never had any prior version installed.

I copied the DLL from the Plex for Windows directory into the Plex HTPC directory, without doing any registration commands, and it worked. :person_shrugging:

Thanks for confirming. Hopefully the option gets implemented in a future update.

You may be able to do it manually within the scripts and config files.

I find this one the issues with Plex HTPC specifically.

Plex in general does not give the user much control of the UI but they seemed to have removed options we had in PMP with HTPC.

I also want the settings options to remove suspend, shutdown, reboot etc from the Exit menu.

Could you not release here for us to test ?
