Plex HTPC feedback

Yup, I can confirm that happened to me as well…

Any findings on white screen issue?

Thank you for this app! Overall it’s working well for me and I’ve stopped using the previous client apps on my Windows HTPC.

A few items for feedback:

  1. Screen tearing - is V-Sync forced off? I’ve used my GPU control panel to force V-Sync on for the Plex HTPC app, but I still get screen tearing.
  2. Sound not working unless Exclusive Audio is enabled - also, the feedback sounds don’t appear to work, I get no sound when I navigate through menus
  3. App exits full screen if I Alt-Tab: I have other apps running on my HTPC and sometimes alt-tab between them and Plex. When I do this, Plex HTPC exits full screen mode. I’ve bound a hotkey on my remote to alt-tab in order to get around this problem, but it would be nice if Plex stayed in full screen at all times.

My setup:

  • Windows 10 Pro 1909, with latest Windows Updates
  • Intel i7-4770
  • Using integrated GPU (Intel Graphics 4600), driver version 20.19.15.5166
  • Using current version of PMS 1.22.1.4228, running on the same machine as the Plex HTPC client
  • Connected to TV using DVI → HDMI (audio over DVI is enabled in motherboard BIOS)

keyboard navigation laggy, at times it can be fast but then stalls…

I LOVE it, works great… much faster than other Plex versions.

. . . Love The App its nice and clean cant wat for HDR support

I have HDR TV very high end. I have Apple TV 4K device.

I have high end monitor that supports HDR… don’t see what the big deal is personally. HDR seems a bit overrated if you ask me. Tried it in games, movies lots of HDR content… not seeing the feature.

I understand if you like it but I truly cannot see a difference. If I am being completely objective Dolby Vision is better on my TV at least. I can see HDR in Netflix and other content but Dolby Vision I can almost tell without looking at settings if it’s on or not. Can’t be objective on my monitor it doesn’t support Dolby Vision. HDR I see zero difference regardless of what device it’s on.

The “next” episode on the next screen isn’t always the next episode.

This happens to me with Hulu, very annoying indeed. I wonder if there is perhaps some similarity in the software they use…

OK don’t understand I watch almost exclusively on Apple TV 4K it works great. I stream form my local server… I can do 4K movies everything you just said… so not sure what you mean by ‘use Plex for everything again’ it’s exactly what I do now… Plex player on Apple TV and Plex server… that’s all we need.

I have a projector that supports HDR and want to play my 4k content with HDR (not tone mapped SDR). Currently HDR is not supported but is being worked on.

@jerkychew, @axemanuk666 thanks for catching. Getting this filed for fixing!

I was wondering if we can get “sweet fades” on the other plex apps. I still use Plex-Amp for 95% of my music playing but when I occasionally play a few songs in the htpc app for example, it’d be nice to have the great transitions on other devices.

For sure. It’s not going to happen right away but it’s something we’d like to do.

Also, I searched for this but saw no mention of it… any way to stop the music images & Lyrics to stop switching sides every 30 secs or so, in Plex-HTPC App?

Negative.

1 more thing… The music stops during playback if I try to browse other Artists etc, in Plex-HTPC App. Is this native to the HTPC version or all Plex Apps now? Anyway to have it behave so one can browse while music is playing like it used to do?

That’s curious behavior. I’d expect music to continue too when users press “back” to exit the player. I’ve filed an issue for us to follow-up.

No, no plan for official support. Although, you can always support it yourself. We’ll listen for input from gamepads and USB keyboards. Our support documentation will cover this case.

Not yet, thanks for your logs. The white screen issue is almost definitely a OpenGL rendering issue.

It’s the same core issue as: Blank screen · Issue #1018 · plexinc/plex-media-player · GitHub. In fact, you can you can edit %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex HTPC\plex.ini as described in that issue to test different OpenGL surface formats and renderers. It’s a bit of leg work but it’s truly going to be a big help.

I don’t believe we have any code especially trying to sync to the display. I’ll keep an ear out for additional reports.

We’re working on feedback sounds. DVI->HDMI audio handling is something we haven’t worked on directly. You’ll probably want this on anyway to bypass Windows’ audio mixer.

Was this report that caught my eye initially. I’ll file an issue for reviewing time permitting.

Hi there. Music should continue to play if you exit the music player, unless you explicitly stop playback. Are you just pressing the back button to exit the music player? Is this consistent behaviour? If so, could you send some app logs our way for us to look at.

Are you using keyboard arrow keys or a remote to attempt to scroll down the list of sources or are you attempting to use a mouse? Mouse scroll is currently not supported.

Should be fixed in next version.

Thanks much for the responses & input

Did you guys remove the ability to skip to the next/previous episode with a keyboard input? Perhaps they were moved to new keys? It appears that the only way to do this is to bring up the menu which causes the user to make 3 inputs. I understand how this is necessary for streaming devices because of the limited buttons available. However, since using our own remote control is one of the primary advantages of using an HTPC, we should really be able to skip to the next/previous episode using a single keyboard input like we could with Plex Media Player using the Home/End keys. Right now Home/End is just skipping to the next chapter.

How do you record a program in the guide that has already started?
