Plex HTPC for Windows does not show up in cast list

Since the lastest update of the Plex For Windows doesn’t support controlling as a companion player anymore. Therefore i installed the lastest version of Plex-HTPC as suggested by @Moussa.

But there is no Plex-HTPC listed in the cast section of my Android 11 phone with the regular Plex App.

When i open the bundled version of Plex-Web, i can select Plex-HTPC as client, but unfortunately not from my Android phone. (All other devices are listed at my phone.)

What could be wrong?

It might take a few seconds after the start of Plex HTPC before it is visible to other Plex apps. You might want to use the Refresh ↻ button in the “select player” modal 1 or 2 times.

You might need a running Plex server within the same local network as your 2 clients. It will act as a companion relay.

I also recommend to disable some power saving on the network adapters of each computer which acts either as Plex server or as companion player.

Thank you for helping me.

I have changed the power setting, but unfortunately it is not the solution,

The Windows PC with Plex HTPC is the same PC as my server running. (and previous with Plex for Windows running).

I have added PlexHTPC.exe also to the allowed appslist in Windows Defender Firewall. but it is not working.

Do you have a another solution i can try?

Yes, i am using plex only local (i never enabled remote access)

I have access to all the libraries in PlexHTPC, i can watch a movie, play music, etc.

The only thing what’s not working is, control it from my phone

When i do a clean install of Plex HTPC (clean registry entries and clean localappdata folder), Plex HTPC shows into the cast list for about three seconds. When i select it, the error toast ‘kan geen verbinding maken met Media’

Today i installed the previous version of Plex for Windows 1.45 and i can select it from my android phone. like it always works.

I use 1 windows 10 Pro PC contains the following Plex software:

  • Server Version#: 1.27.0.5849
  • Player Version#: 1.18 (Plex HTPC)
  • PlexAMP Version#: 4.2.2
  • Plex For Windows Version#:1.45
  • Bundled version Web App (opened in Edge)

All the five Plex applications are running at the same time, and when i open my android 11 phone and i open the cast screen, i see the following:

All the items in the listed in the blue section are the apps running from the same PC as my server, i am missing the Plex HTPC application.

i have tested all the previous release versions of Plex HTPC and none of them shows up in the android list.

When i press the cast button on Plex For Windows 1.45, and here is Plex HTPC selectable:

I can control Plex HTPC only from Plex For Windows..

Did it ever worked to control Plex HTPC by android?

PS. I dont have a sonos device ever. but it shows also in the list.
