Plexamp (Android) not seeing other players (Win10/macOs)

Server Version#: 4.42.1 (windows 10)
Player Version#: PlexAmp 3.2 (Android 10)

Not sure if this is expected or not but from Plexamp my Android phone and from Plexamp on Windows and MacOS I can’t see the MacOS or Windows players listed to enable me to remote control them?

If this is expected then that’s a shame… but I think its something in my network or whatever making the players invisible to the phone…any clues welcomed.

p.s. Loving Plexamp 3.2 BTW, the UI and features are like you read my mind  Looking at my Roon account and thinking hmmmm…

What kind of players?
Is there a running Plex server in the local network?

Hi, the Plex server is on the Windows 10 machine and the players are all PlexAmp if thats what you mean Otto.

So I have PlexAmp on my OnePlus Android phone and Plexamp (and Plexserver) on the Windows 10 pc which I want to remote control from the andriod Plexamp app but the windows player does not show up in the list of devices to connect to… it just shows my phone and a Google Home I have.

On Plexamp on the windows 10 pc I can only see the pc itself as a player, no externals, which might be a clue…

Tried refreshing and restrating everything etc but no dice so far.

At this time, Plexamp v3 is only a “companion controller”, but not a “receiver” (yet).

OK thanks for the quick response. What’s an example of a “companion controller” please?

Chromecast audio? Or some software i can install?

A Plex client which can connect to other players and control them.

Ah! Cool thanks again.

Plexamp on both Windows 10 and Android cannot see the Plex Players on my local network: Roku and Android TVs (Shield). The standard Plex app in Android can see all of them.

This is resolved for me, thanks to Otto’s help. The trick is to run the Plex app (not server only) on windows 10 and not expect plexamp (on windows 10 also) to be controlled/seen by the Android app. Once I did this I could see the windows machine in the Plexamp app on Android.

However, I have hit another issue now though where I can remote play “local” music files but when I try to play a Tidal based track the Plex app errors with an unknown error and skips track after track. So not out of the woods yet.

Sorry if the above is hard to read with the number of Plex mentions in it’s various guises.

I am trying to control standard Plex players/receivers (Roku and Android TV), not instances of Plexamp. They are currently not displayed in the Cast list (only the Chromecasts on my network are listed).

This sounds like the same issue from a. different angle, but I can’t help much Im afraid, only just fixed my problem! Hopefully someone will jump in to help you out.

Is there a running Plex server in the same local network?

Yes, server and players all on the same local network. The normal Plex app on the same device displays all the players appropriately.
