Player Version#: Plex HTPC 1.60.1
System: Mac M1, Sonoma
I currently cannot play audio from any content via Plex HTPC to my Bluetooth device - this is a problem with a new-ish somewhat expensive bluetooth receiver, and was also a problem with a slightly older device I used to have. The strange thing is, I can hear feedback sounds from PlexHTPC (e.g. clicks as I type and make menu selections), but when I play any video I only hear silence.
- I’ve tried every possible combination of audio settings in Plex HTPC, both settings for the content as well as global playback settings - no luck.
- I’ve tried making an aggregate audio device for my bluetooth player - no luck, same behavior, no sound with videos
- I’ve tried videos with stereo as well as various surround formats - no luck (e.g. it’s not just a problem with specific audio encodings).
- I can play the same movies in the regular Plex app and other video players to the bluetooth device with no problems.
- Bluetooth playback USED to work. I’m not totally sure what broke it, as I use HTPC only occationally - the things that have changed:
- I’ve updated to MacOS Sonoma (this could have broken something?)
- I’ve applied updates to HTPC (this could be an HTPC regression?)
- Mysteriously, I got audio playing recently - ONCE - and thought the problem had miraculously solved itself. But the next time I watched something, it was back to no audio again. This could indicate that there’s some combination of … the audio encoding for the file, plus Plex audio settings, plus … ??? … that is at fault.
I’m confused how to triage this - I don’t have this problem with any other application on my system, and my bluetooth device is in general very reliable and problem-free. It’s a bit maddening because my projector tends to have audio sync problems that I can only fix with HTPC. Anyone else dealt with similar issues on mac? Any clues here?
