Plex hw transcoding, stuttering while playing subs on LG/Xbox

Server Version#: 1.31.2.6810
Player Version#: Plex For LG 5.57.2 / Xbox series X (unknown version)
Server: Proxmox intel i3-10100/32GB Ram
→ Ubuntu LXC container with hardware transcode/tonemapping.

When transcoding, everything is done in hardware, works perfectly.
Enabling an SRT subtitle(tested different files,hdr and not hdr):

  • Browser works fine, transcoding goes completely through hardware
  • Plex app on android, same, no issues
  • Plex on LG / Xbox series X:
    • client is stuttering/pausing, no buffer present
    • happening with hdr and non hdr
    • intel_gpu_top at 1/4th speed (compared to without subs)
    • cpu is loaded around 50%, far from maxing out
    • subtitles burn in is set to never
    • no real errors except

Am I missing something? or are some apps just broken?

I can’t tell what’s happening from the snippet.

I need the full (debug) logs zip file which captures the start of the playback.

ProxMox is fussy but I’m using it in a VM on a NUC7 (i3-7300) without issue.

This is starting to sound like a networking or player issue but will reserve judgement until the logs are seen.

Appareantly it is a player issue, audio is force transcoded. Which appareantly forces subtitle burnin in some clients?

DEBUG logs are needed.

Nothing is saved by turning them off. They automatically roll over at 10 Megabytes.

Is the player forcing / calling for Burn (in settings). Not all do.
