So up until some time ago I had issues with 4K HDR video not playing nice when needing to transcode audio. Need the audio transcode for DTS, as it seems that all manufacturers nowadays dropped it, for some strange reason.
I came back to plex after some updates and rechecked and was so happy to see that there are no more video glitches with 4K HDR/Dolby Vision video when transcoding just audio, but now, subtitles stoped working, any format, even external ones. SRT files always worked with my TV, so I do not know what happened.
I’m using my PC as server and the built-in app on my LG TV.
Any hints? Although there aren’t many options in the settings for this one, and I tried them all.
Also, does Plex not support PCM sound? PCM sound tracks won’t play either, giving the same error as with the subtitles.
With the Plex app on LG TVs, if the media is direct streaming, such as when audio is transcoding, enabling any subtitle results in a video transcode.
If your server is not strong enough or you have video transcoding disabled, you will see the “not enough CPU…” message.
There is no workaround.
You may want to consider another Plex client, such as Android TV (Nvidia Shield, Amazon FireStick, etc). With the Plex Android/Android TV app, enabling subtitles when audio is transcoding does not force a video transcode.
You can monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + Expanded View. It will show you if the video or audio is transcoding.
