Plex incorrectly recognizes TV show as a Movie

I have a few TV shows (with episodes), IN the TV Shows directory that Plex matches as Movies. They are not. Is there not anyway to get it to be recognized as a TV Show?

That raises the key question…
Did you link both your tv and movies folder to your movies library?

Plex wants you to assign tv-show and movie files to separate libraries.

Example:

Library Linked folder
Movies C:\Users\[user name]\Videos\Movies\
TV Shows C:\Users\[user name]\Videos\TV Shows\

With the videos in each top-level-folder organized according to the naming schema / structure described by Plex (this is in particular important for tv-episodes).

They are separate. I should add, when I went to match the individual episodes and found the correct title, Plex has it listed as a movie. It is not. It was a TV Series with individual episodes

What movies/tv shows are we talking about. A movie library intentionally ignores files with the TV notation S01E01 and the like. a TV library ignores files that don’t have the notation.

There is no function to match individual episodes. Sounds like you have a movie library with tv episodes in it and the files aren’t named with the TV show notation. So being a movie library it will try to match those files to movies.

As I stated, they are all separated in the correct folders. The program is the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. There are two seasons of episodes. I know there’s no function to match individual episodes, I meant when I chose one and tried to match, as it didn’t match anything in it’s own. I can search for and find the correct title, but plex incorrectly has it as a movie. It is not

Libraries are not folders. I’m talking about libraries. A movie library pointed at a folder containing TV show episodes files will try to match them with movies because it is a movie library.

Please take a screenshot of what you are talking about. (of the entire screen including the libraries on the left.

Now that we’ve gone back and forth on the same non issue for 6 messages and accomplished nothing. I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO. THE LIBRARIES ARE POINTED TO THE CORRECT SEPARATE FOLDERS. Can we get off that now??? I appreciate your trying to help, but you’re not, trying to focus on what is NOT the problem

I ALREADY TOLD YOU WHAT SHOW, PLEASE READ WHAT I WROTE FIRST, THEN MAYBE WE CAN TALK, lol. I know you can’t see what I see, that is why I described it several times already. The problem is, you have to READ first, THEN respond. Try NOT to fire off your standard wrote replies, as tempting as that is. They are NOT helpful.

Let’s curb it down a notch. Writing in all-caps isn’t getting you anywhere.
Your first post was far from being as clear as you consider it to be… your subsequent posts were not helping your case.

As BigWheel stated… there’s no individual matching of episodes. If you have those Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show episodes organized in a tv-show type library, the following organization/naming should automatically recognize and match the show:

TV Shows <- whatever top-level-folder you have linked to the TV Show type library
The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show
    Season 01
      The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show - s01e01 - Snoopy's Cat Fight.ext
The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show - s01e02 - Snoopy Team Manager.ext
The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show - s01e03 - Linus and Lucy.ext
      ...
The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show - s01e13 - Lucy Loves Schroeder.ext

    Season 02
The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show - s02e01 - Snoopy and the Giant.ext
      The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show - s02e02 - Snoopy's Brother Spike.ext
      ...
      The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show - s02e05 - Sally's Sweet Babboo.ext

Where .ext refers to the file extension. The episode titles after the sXXeYY pattern are completely optional and will be ignored by Plex!
Naming based on the show’s listing on TheTVDB.com -> https://www.thetvdb.com/series/the-charlie-brown-and-snoopy-show/allseasons/official

If you have linked the files to a movie-type library, matching the items will match them as that… a movie.
Grouping tv-episodes in season folders inside a movie-type library does not make Plex recognize the files as episodes.

what movie.

the two places tv libraries get info from are here
Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show — The Movie Database (TMDB).

and here
Search - TheTVDB.com.

neither of which that I can find have that as a movie.

Big wheel, please, keep on turning, you’re not helping

Can’t help you, unless you help us help you.

And as I stated, I WASN’T INDIVIDUALLY MATCHING EPISODES. I WROTE IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE DON’T BOTHER READING WHAT I WRITE ANYWAY. DESPITE WRITING IT THREE TIMES. This is why I hate forums and they are mostly a waste of time as the responders are either egomaniacs who not only think they know all the answers, but know what everyone is asking, before actually reading it, or it’s people who have no idea what they’re talking about, but are bored in their bedrooms and just throw out responses anyway. Nevermind, I’ll live with it as this has already wasted enough of my time

Take a screenshot and this could probably be solved in seconds.

The problem appears to revolve around the db’s mis-recognizing certain TV shows as movies. all the Charlie Brown half hour specials were TV shows, yet most of them are matched to Movies. Seems the only ones that are not are the ones that have individual episodes. not a biggies, just would be nice if you could put it where you want to, where it belongs

Let’s be specific.
Videos will be recognized/added as movies if you added them to a movie-type library (and if those episodes also a movie record in the metadata repositories used by Plex).

Could you please can you share:

  1. Some details about your Plex Media Server (e.g. platform, version)
  2. Your file organization (file names and folder structure)
  3. The Setup of the Plex tv-show library that keeps adding content as movies:
    • from the General tab of the library information (library type, language)
    • from the Advanced tab of the library information (agent, scanner, use of local metadata/assets/…)
  4. A screenshot how the items show in your library (as requested by BigWheel)

Synology DS220j. It’s all the latest versions, fully updated.

Movies are in Video/Movies and TV Shows are in Video/TV Shows. The library pull from the appropriate folders. The problem is, when the metadata is matched, those shows match with movies, they don’t match with TV shows as there is no matching TV show in the database, and as I see, no way of changing them. As I can not match the videos with the correct metadata I have to then match them with a movie as that’s where the matching metadata is

Sorry… can you please share the exact details for the above information?
This summary isn’t really helping to clarify any of this.

Nevermind, I’m past this already. The issue is, as I stated, the metadata matches for some videos are wrong, and incorrectly match some TV shows with Movies. There should be a way of putting them under the category we would like, and where they belong

Well… you must have a different Plex from all us others
But if you don’t want to fix it – your call.
