Seems silly to pay for the Plex Pass and still get ads? This confused me greatly and was one of the main reasons for considering the purchase (currently on a month free trail, before paying).
If you are enjoying a movie, those ads seriously break the experience. If you are getting the service for free, sure provide the ads. However, there should be a removal of those ads for the paid experience. A seemless movie experience is worth actually paying for out of the Plex Pass.
The ads give them recurring income so they can afford to pay license fees for wherever they get the movies and shows, the one time payments from us do not. Iâm sure they feel the one time payment is for the ability to manage and watch your own content. The stuff with ads can easily be hidden from your menu so you donât have to even see it.
However, if they had the option for a small recurring fee ($2 a month) to go ad free Iâm sure a lot of viewers of those ad driven programs would pay it.
âPlexâ doesnât get ANY Movies or TV Shows.
Plex merely diplays MGM/Lionsgate/Crackle/Other material they already own copyright for - and have made them available in Ad Supported Media they aim at Plex and Plex displays - for everyone the same way - exactly the way âPlexâs Providersâ want it.
âPlexâs Ad Supported Content Providersâ donât give a ratâs chubby beehind if you have Plex Pass or not. Those Ads make money when theyâre displayed - and thatâs the way itâs gonna be.
Be happy thereâs a way to turn it all off.
Itâs a miracle we got that much.
âPlex Passâ doesnât have any ads. Plex Pass is all about features on your Plex Media Server, your content, features you can use on your devices and to manage your content.
You donât need a Plex Pass to watch that content. And a Plex Pass doesnât give any extra privileges for that content. Theyâre completely unrelated. A Plex Pass doesnât let you cut in line, or use the carpool lane, or get an extra scoop on your ice cream. And ads donât give you access to any extra Plex features. They just give you access to that content, if you choose to watch it.
We donât own the rights to any of them. We have limited streaming rights and at any moment in time a content provider can say we are not allowed to stream X anymore for various reasons or no reason at all.
Iâm moving this feature request to the general discussions category so you can keep discussing if you want to, rather than closing it to give the vote back as this wonât happen.
