Plex Interface does not show up under trailers

I am running into a similar issue as others, but am unable to resolve:

  • ATV2 or ATV3?: ATV3
  • Your ATV firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): 5.2.1 (6025)
  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): 192.168.0.143
  • The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on: Windows Server 2012 Essentials (HP-EX470)
  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 192.168.0.143 (Ethernet)
  • The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: Windows Server 2012 Essentials (HP-EX470)
  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: 192.168.0.143 (Ethernet)
  • Where your media is stored (e.g. internal drive): Internal Hard Drive
  • The PlexConnect version number (or if using Github source then a time and date of download; look at the creation date of the folder): 07th June 7:56am
  • A detailed description of the issue (the clearer you can make this the better):

When I click on Trailers App on Apple TV, it still comes up with the standard Trailers (ie. it doesn't show the Plex Interface).  I currently have the DNS on ATV set to the IP of the server running PlexConnect.  Here's is the output of PlexConnect.py when it's run:

PlexConnect : ***

PlexConnect : PlexConnect

PlexConnect : Press ENTER to shut down.

PlexConnect : ***

PlexConnect : IP_self: 192.168.0.143

PlexGDM : ***

PlexGDM : looking up Plex Media Server

PlexGDM : ***

PlexGDM : servers discovered: 1

DNSServer : intercept trailers.apple.com: 192.168.0.143

DNSServer : ***

WebServer : ***

WebServer : WebServer: Serving HTTP on 0.0.0.0 port 80.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Hi I am not an expert, but had exactly the same problem.  You need to change your DNS on ATV to 192.168.0.143.  I am not sure why because I would imagine this is an IP address and not DNS, but it is what I was advised to do and it started working.

aTV has to request DNS resolution at the PlexConnect DNSServer. This one reacts on "trailers.apple.com" and responds with the own (PlexConnect) IP Address. That way, aTV thinks it is talking to Apple, whereas it actually talks to us...

This is the root cause for the need to change your aTV DNS settings to manually connect with the PlexConnect machine.

Thanks for the replies, but I thought that's what I'm doing:

1) The DNS for ATV is set to: 192.168.0.143

2) PlexConnect is installed on static IP: 192.168.0.143 (Ethernet)

3) Plex media server (PMS) is installed on static IP: 192.168.0.143 (Ethernet)

4) The PlexConnect log shows:  DNSServer : intercept trailers.apple.com: 192.168.0.143

Is the 'DNS forward" IP supposed to be 192.168.0.143 as well?  I didn't think so, since PlexConnect needs to know what to forward non-handled DNS requests to.

I must be missing something simple or something else on my local network is responding to the DNS request before PlexConnect sees it.  But I don't know how that can be if ATV is pointing to 192.168.0.143.  Fyi, I restarted ATV for good measure -- still didn't help.

Any other ideas?

You should not be seeing the Apple trailers application if you have the DNS of your ATV pointed at your server.

Do you have both ethernet and wireless connected on your ATV? I wonder if it is using the other interface.

I have the exact same Problem. I tried different approaches and on my iMac it works with the exact same settings but on my Windows Server 2012 it doesn't. I know that according too the guid in the repo it is not officialy supported but i guess others have managed to get it working.

For me it seems as if the Trailers App on the AppleTV doesn't even pass through the server as there are no 'DNS request' logs in the Plexconnect. Does anyone have a Windows Server 2012 and got it working with Plexconnect?

Do you get any response messages on the Plexconnect.py window when trying to access the trailers app?

You should see an actual request from the ATV if you set up you DNS to be the server its running on.

Are you running wireless and Ethernet? Maybe you set the wrong interface on the Apple TV?

You answered a post from June, 8th. I sure hope, this issue got resolved by now...
