My current setup is as follows:
- Plex Server 4.129.1, Windows 10 LTSC, static LAN IP address.
- Plex HTPC player 1.63.1.163-53e43905, macOS Sonoma, x86
- Plex iOS 8.35, iOS 17.5.1
All devices are on the same LAN. I’m not streaming over WAN. The server uses a static IP address on the LAN. Everything else is stock LAN configuration.
There are two Plex accounts. One is admin, and a second one is restricted non-admin.
So far, here is the problems I’ve been experiencing on the iOS app:
- On admin Plex user account, when connecting to devices in the iOS app, the Plex HTPC player always shows up.
- However, on a non-admin Plex user account, the Plex HTPC player never shows up in the device list. I can’t get this to work at all.
- When flinging content to Plex HTPC in admin user account via the iOS app, the content plays on the remote device, sometimes the iOS app wants to play picture-in-picture, for some reason. Sometimes it says “failed to play remote content”, when it’s not true. This doesn’t always happen, but I reckon chances are like 1 out 5.
- For some reason iOS app always quits when my phone locks, and when i want to control the remote Plex HTPC device, i have go through Connect to a Device → Plex HTPC → then pause. Every single time.
- Sometimes the iOS app shows “No Content from Your Pinned Sources” for one user account, but the other account works.
- Trying to add my server’s static IP address in Add Connection under Advanced settings on iOS app always results with “Unable to add connection”, despite the fact the server is reachable by other means (i can load the web interface via the web browser on the same phone, for example).
With all that said, my biggest issue is unable to fling content from the iOS device to the Plex HTPC player in non-admin Plex accounts. Solutions for that would be appreciated.
