Plex server has decided that all broadway musicals and most movie soundtracks were written by Stephen Sondheim. All my broadway musicals and soundtracks stored in iTunes have Stephen Sondheim in the Plex artist tag. They are of course correct in iTunes
You haven’t given us much info to go on about your situation, but if you have Plex configured to prefer embedded tags, it’s very important that the tags are complete and accurate. This guide may help.
In your ID3 tags, it’s important that the Album Artist (even if it’s blank) and Album title are identical in each file. If Album Artist is blank, the album will still be listed under the Artist’s name if the Artist tags are identical for all tracks. If they are not identical, the album will be listed under “Various Artists.”
I must not be understanding this correctly. The Album Artist must be set to the same as the album name? If that’s actually the case it seems better for Plex to simply ignore Album Artist.
The Album Name for each file in the album needs to match, and the Album Artist for each file needs to match.
e.g. the album artist might be Various Artists, while the album name might be Summer Hits or whatever. Just make sure that each file in the album is consistent.
This may not contain many specifics but I find it sums up my feelings perfectly regarding Plex’s capabilities as regards the tagging of classical music. As I type this, in another window I’m trying to unscramble the nonsense that Plex has made of a reload caused by a disk move. In particular I’m looking at an artist which it has created called ‘Ensemble Musique Vivant / Diego Masson’. To this it has added the biography of Karlheinz Stockhausen and a poster of Claudio Abbado. Go figure. My tagging is first rate as my digital collection has over the years been cleaned up repeatedly and been through loads into JRiver, Foobar and Roon, finally settling on Roon. I’m only trying Plex in order to use Plexamp. You are SO FAR behind the competition when it comes to classical music.
