Why does plex auth need to be up to use a local server? I went into my Xbox one and added the manual IP. What am I missing?
I would love to know an answer to this too. I couldn’t even use the manual IP way as the Plex Media Player application whouldn’t launch, due to the maintenance.
oh, so that is the thorn that has been in my side all day.
There definitely needs to be a standalone auth method. Even if it means temporarily losing pass features on login until Plex auth servers are back up. It’s like if we bought a car but we don’t get the keys to drive it unless they say we can.
yeah this is nuts. I can’t watch anything on my local network, not even on my main PC that is also a server.
Try these settings and then see if you can access Plex when your external network is removed.
- In your Plex Server settings, under Network, find “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”. In that box, enter the local IP address of your server, followed by “/255.255.255.0”. This will allow any local IP address to access your Plex Server without authentication. (Example: 10.50.10.50/255.255.255.0 = IP addresses from 10.50.10.1-10.50.10.254 have access) If you want to only allow certain IP addresses on your local network, just enter each one followed by a comma. (Example: 10.50.10.20,10.50.10.30,10.50.10.40)
- In each Plex Client on your local network, set “Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections” to “On same network as server”.
Now, simulate a network outage by disconnecting your modem from your local LAN. Can you still access your Plex Server?
