Plex is frustrating the crap out of me

i have been using plex for couple of months now. on both the player app on my phone and the roku tvs it is non stop problems. i get no internet connection messages with the annoying dog cartoon alllllll the time. it frequently says my internet connection is too slow. and it takes like 20 minutes to recognize the server when i reboot the computer the server is on. i am about ready to delete it. what on earth does a guy have to do to just have it work.

server 1.14.1.5488
lubuntu 18.10
android player 7.11.0.9072
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-22_18-41-00.zip (1.8 MB)

He post logs, as well as state what PMS version, on what OS, as well as what player (incl. version) on what platform

Love that dog

allright, the dog is cute. i still hate it. but it is cute,

i said that about the dog, and now it is a pic of a hibernating bear.

thank you very much for your reply. it seems thorough. however, i dont speak computer. i have spent some time looking up the things you said, the server has been claimed i checked, its still claimed, im signed in. i cleared the dns cache not that i know what that really affected. i will look into the time code issue as well. yes we stream at 720p ususally 2mbps. it does suck. is the low passmark represent my computer hardware not being fast enough? router? i dont understand pretty much anything behind the curtain with computers. i am learning. the reason i still blame plex is because they advertise this on roku, the lowest common denominator(me) is getting this service. i would like to not have to undertake learning minor IT skills to operate a flashy popular app. its not out of the ordinary to expect that. I am appreciative for it but it is fustrating as hell. i think i get it to work good. it works for a while, then it goes back to sucking. is there any more info you would need from me besides the logs that might help?

Your hardware is slow… that will make transcoding 1080p suck

Have you considered using standard DVDs instead of blue ray? if you are having to reduce the quality of the 1080 files to watch, you have lost the benefit of the higher quality. and frankly, standard DVDs still look pretty good.

Have you opened 32400 port in TCP and UDP on your internet router? that might affect logging in issues

I run on 18.10, with a windows server serving NfS to the plex server. Still an old processor, but 4 core, 8 thread I7 so 1080p streams work

right on. i do try to get 720p ususally, because of the slowness. i dont know much about networking, there is too much info out there about all of this for someone that works a job not on a computer, and commutes 2+ hours a day to become aquainted. so, thank you for explaining some and not being an asshat like ol’ trumpy81 up there. like how are people that are unfamiliar with networking supposed to operate this app? go to the forums… oh yeah, the forums talked ■■■■ to me cuz i didnt know stuff. thank you for being kind.
anyways. i dont know what the issue is, ive tried a bunch of ■■■■. it just intermitently sucks no matter what i do.
what hardware is slow? the router or my computer? anyway to optimize?

Im not to much with unix/linux etc. but perhaps some basic info is all you are needing
Plex works best and requires the least amount of resources/hardware if you can direct stream to your device, meaning the server just reads the file to the player and doesn’t make any changes to it. in other words if you have a 1080 tv DO NOT set it for 720 just let it direct play the file.
on the other hand if you have a 720 tv and all your movies are in 1080 you’ll have to transcode to 720. P
Plex can do that on the fly for you but you are going to need a little processing power.
as far as the networking goes, I would think you are on at least a wireless g router with a ethernet connection (big phone cord coming from the back of the computer ) to the router so you should be ok for say 5-10 mbps on the wifi
On your roku open up the plex app go to settings then video
set local quality to original quality
direct play to auto
check the box for allow direct stream
back out of that and start a movie
Keep your fingers cross
Good Luck I hope this helps
