Hi all.
Why is Plex ignoring my metadata (or even using completely wrong meta-data)?
I have “prefer local tags” switched on but it just isn’t always using my tags.
What’s worse is that in some places it’s using completely wrong tags from a different part of my library.
As an example, I use the following Album Artist tag for all my albums by Richard Wagner:
CL-C, Wagner, Richard
(CL-C = Classical Composer)
For albums by Maria Callas, I’ll use the tag:
CL-A, Callas, Maria
(CL-A = Classical Artist)
And yet, half my Wagner album are showing with the Maria Callas album artist tag.
Seeing as these are quite idiosyncratic tags & not something that Plex has found by looking elsewhere, I know that it is just getting all my tags in a muddle.
In actual fact, yesterday I went in & changed all my Wagner Album Artist tags from “CL-C, Richard Wagner” to “CL-C, Wagner, Richard” & the albums in Plex that were using the Wagner Album Artist tag are still showing the old tag & not the revised one. (Of course, the ones that are using the Maria Callas tag haven’t changed at all.)
Could this be something to do with my folder hierarchy?
As far as I can see, all of the albums that have a top level folder of the band name & then a folder for each album inside it seem to be sorting normally & using the correct tags.
Albums that are buried deeper inside different sub-folders are often (but not always) shown with the wrong tags.
Is Plex confused by sub-folders?
