Example: 47 Ronin. Movie encoded in MP4. Has all meta data encoded. but it shows 2016 as year. pulled the XML and I see these two cells:
year=“2016” <<< which is where I am guessing the 2016 display date is coming from
originallyAvailableAt=“2013-12-06” <<<< which is the “real” date of the movie.
I use MetaX it encode the meta into the MP4. I have wandered through all the meta cells it has and then the properties window of the file itself and cannot find a meta cell = “year” where the date is 2016. The only date is in the file properties and it shows 2013. Where is this “2016” date coming from and do I correct it? About 75% has this issue.
I do not allow Plex to match anything. I force Plex to use the encoded META data. I take down internet access when I add movies to ensure that it only uses the encode meta data in the mp4. Other suggestions as to where it is getting this bogus date?
Well the 6. December was the release in Japan but the world wide release was on 25. december. Since Plex is matching the data with MovieDB (by default), and they are using the 25. December 2013 as release date, is Plex unable to select the correct Movie.
You can check it yourself here:
TBH: Don’t do this hassle and just name the files correctly. Click on my Link above and use the Title as Filename eg: “47 Ronin (2013).mp4”
okay. so I finally figured out where to find the XML file that it is pulling the data from. I have edited it, did a metadata refresh and Viola!! all is well. this is gunna be tedious with over 1700 movies, but at least I know how to find and edit to correct the information.
@skaronator- Plex can’t match it with TMDB, I block access to that web site. And I turn off the internet access for the Plex server when I add movies. I am naming the movie just fine, thanks though.
