I dont understand, Plex is now transcoding these files and I cant change the setting on my play back details. In the playback details it wont let me switch off “convert to 320p” and I get message saying “not enough bandwidth available for direct play of this item…”. Speed test to my apple tv shows plenty of bandwidth. And I am not remote, I am inside my house where my server is.,
I also just noticed that my server says “nearby”. Is it supposed to say that? I am at home on my macbook pro where my server is as I type this.
Well Plex, reverting back to the previous version of PMS solved everything. Current version is buggy.
If I were to guess, this looks like the bandwith setting on apple-tv might have been changed? Settings > video quality > (change internet streaming to max) if the relay was being used.
Nah that’s not it chief. Someone on Reddit had same issue and said he suspects a bug in latest PMS release. So I deleted it and re-installed the PMS release I had before the latest. Problem solved.
Alright, I decided on Friday to update to the latest version of PMS and the transcoding issue was gone! Hooray. Except now its back. Even if I go back and install the previous working version 1.32.0.6918, Plex still transcodes, if I turn off “enable relay” Plex wont even connect to to my home server. If i turn it on, it transcodes everything. Can someone please tell me what I need to do here?
As I told you before, its using the relay. Fix your direct connections or bump up the internet streaming setting.
