Since update it forces 720p

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

So since I updated to the latest update, I am being forced to 720p and not being able to play at original quality. I click it in playback settings on all my devices and it pauses, then goes back to 720p. I didn’t change any settings inside of my Server so not sure what else to try or where to even look

So on the player you set remote and local to Origina, and it’s still transcoding down to 720?
If yes, enable debug, not verbose, play something and then post the logs here so they can help.

So I have it set for original inside of the Server settings under Remote Access, and when I try to change playback settings on my Apple TV or iPad it doesnt switch to Original Quality. Just stays at “convert (2 Mbps, 720p HD)” When I go into “playback info” for the episode its saying “Transcode reason: Not enough bandwidth for direct play of this item. Required bandwidth is 18113kbps and only 2000kbps is available” Dunno what would have changed since this morning besides me updating to the latest update. Not the best at explaining the stuff so I hope its good enough to get a start.

That’s perfect, you found the problem. I’m sorry, but I’ve never seen the Player blocking us from changing that option and that’s exactly where you have to change

Its just weird because all the apple tv’s in my house are hardwired to the network. So no reason it should have a problem

@anon18523487 Sorry for tagging you, but have you seen this before?

Famous last words those…

Check the Dashboard Details during playback of one of these items.
Make sure you’re ‘Nearby and Direct’ - NOT Relay.
While I’ve never seen Relay in operation - this smells like something Relay would do.

and just in case…:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/216766168-accessing-a-server-through-relay/

Relay happens when a major malfunction occurs and Clients can’t access the server directly - for some reason.

That 2 Mbps limit sounds like your clients are connecting using Relay. i.e. an indirect connection.

Restart PMS, wait 3 minutes without doing anything, try playing the file again. Grab logs from PMS and the client.

What it shows when I waited 3 min and then tried to play it from my ipad on the dashboard of the PMS

Plex for iOS — iPad Pro

Paused—0:17 / 41:02

Indirect—2 Mbps

My Remote Access has been acting up as well, i’ll disable it, enable it and its green until I hit another tab then it goes into error again.

Tip: It looks like your server may be connected to the internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this “Double-NAT” scenario

But its just Modem—>Orbi Router—>Orbi Satellites and I havent switched anything so dunno where else to look.

Provide the logs suggested - and @anon18523487 will be able to see what’s happening and why (we hope).

Do that.

Got your log.

The app did trigger a relay connection.

Your remote access isn’t working properly.

Which Orbi model do you have? And what modem? Are you sure it’s not a modem/router combo?

I have the RBR50 Orbi and the CM8200. I’ve had the same setup for about 3 years and never had a problem up until a couple days ago. Didnt touch anything inside the router either.

Make sure CM8200 is on bridge mode and Orbit on router mode, so Plex can forward the port using upnp.
If you can’t change that, then you’ll need to enable DMZ on CM8200 and set your Orbit IP there.

Is your server connection to the RBR50 or to the satellite? The satellite is basically a repeater so if you connect your server to that, it is behind a double NAT.

It’s hardwired to a switch that goes to my router from there.

Figured it out, somehow my home network got switched to public and my firewall was blocking it.

If I turn firewall off, it allows it to be played at the Original quality

I allow Plex for my Public/Private network and turn my firewall back on and it goes back to convert to 720p. Any ideas?

Can you show the firewall rule?

when its turned on I have it allowed through both private and public for Plex DLNA Server, Plex Media Server, Plex Media Server DLNA Service, Plex Scripting Host, and Plex Tuner Service.

Check the advanced settings and make sure you have both TCP and UDP enabled.

so I created my own rules and matched them up with yours and still not working. I was getting an error when trying to edit the others. Thats what it would say. I would try turning the parameter to 0 in there as well and nothing. Do you think uninstalling and deleting all my data in the plex folder and reinstalling will fix the problem? Dunno what would have switched in the last month or whatever to cause it to do this.
