I am currently running PLEX on QNAP TS 251+, but when playing 4K video through my local network, it keeps buffering. I try to open videos directly on NAS, it runs perfectly. So I guess is PLEX issue, not the network. Then I notice on NAS the CPU is nearly 99%, but I am playing original quality, it shouldn’t decode anything. Any solutions about this? Thanks.
About 99.9 % of all 4K medias will req. a transcode
(Most times due to audio, or the player is a smart tv using cabel connected network, which in most cases are 100Mb only, and as such, not fast enough)
You need to play the media, and then look in PMS to see what’s been transcoded, as well as in the PMS logs in debug mode to see why. (Search for MDE:
)
Thanks, this is the screenshot on the PMS, looks like its transcoding both video and audio. I am playing on Xbox one X and Nivida shield, and also have a atmos soundbar, these devices I reckon should be able to decode most common format?
Is it possible force plex direct play 4K video? I also tried disable subtitle, still transcoding video.Sadly not the owner of neither an XBox nor a shield
You might have to ask in the player forums, where people having such devices hang out
