Plex isn't matching all my movies anymore!

I’ve used Plex for years, and for the most part it has worked flawlessly.

All of the sudden it stopped reliably matching movies. I used to have virtually no movies unmatched/mismatched. Maybe a very rare obscure film with filename and/or metadata that was all messed up.

Suddenly it started happening frequently. After a few movies didn’t match, I realized it was ONLY movies that start with “The.” All the movies that don’t start with “The” match correctly. All the movies that start with “The” don’t match at all. I went to manually match these movies and I realized it was searching for the movie name incorrectly. Instead of searching the movie database for “The Shining,” it would search for “Shining, The.” If I manually search for “The Shining,” it finds the movie and matches it.

What’s wrong and how do I fix it?

How are your files named? I suspect you are naming them \movie_dir\Shining, The\Shining, The.mkv, which is why Plex is searching for “Shining, The”.

If this is the case, change your naming convention to \movie_dir\The Shining (1980)\The Shining (1980).mkv.
