Plex just nuked my subtitles, WTF?

I am in a Bilingual house.
So i painstakingly need to curate German subtitles(Curating is harder than a more common Language than Spanish)
example files
Dark.S01E01.AVI
Dark.S01E01.ENG.srt
Dark.S01E01.GER.srt

during a re-scan in netflix. i watched as all the *.ger.srt files disappearing out of the directory. a check inside of plex and it doesn’t appear to have the German subtitles available. WTF. now im a little pissed as my libraries have over 3000 videos. I have no idea how many more subtitles it nuked and how many countless hours i have wasted over the past year.

Why did this happen? How doe we prevent it from happening again? Any chance i can get my subtitles back?

for the time being I’m manually muxing the subtitles into MKV files. Unless there is another way i can be sure plex wont go on another deleting spree.

Plex as such never deletes any subtitles.
You must have installed 3rd party plugins. Disable those and monitor the issue.

Are you running WebTools or SubZero? These have the ability to delete subtitles.

Actually, I’ve seen that if a refresh (butler task) on a low powered system, like a NAS borks out on CPU, then from time to time LMA fails, and as such, subs disappear.
A refresh of the movie/episode fixes this.

Sadly forgot to grab logs of it it :frowning:

Ohh…And I was completely wrong here, since you mentions that your sub files are actually getting removed, sorry

WebTools is an on-demand tool only, and has no schedule function build in

If you’re using Sub-Zero, and you have automatic subtitle cleanup enabled, you’ll need to use the compatible naming with a 2-letter iso code (e.g. Dark.S01E01.en.srt).
