Plex on Samsung SmartTV no longer compatible?

Server Version#: 1.1.16
Player Version#: 1.01900

I have been running Plex on a (full disclosure, somewhat old) Samsung SmartTV and it seems that it can not be updated past 1.01900, (from 2016).

The Plex server currently runs on a QNAP NAS, with the current version being 1.1.16.

Plex on the TV no longer load and the question is if it is no longer compatible with the server version? It has worked fine until recently so it might be an update to the server that broke it. Is it possible to downgrade the server version until I get around to buying a new TV?

That model seems indeed to be no longer supported.
From what I’ve been reading, this particular case is not related to your client version not supporting a certain server version but the old communication encryption of those old models no longer being supported in general.

Workaround might be the addition of an entry-level streaming box (e.g. Roku, FireTV or Chromecast sticks)… unless you want to go for a more powerful Roku, Nvidia Shield or Apple TV

Thanks for that. It does seems as if this was the problem as it was stuck on connecting since I was using the Plex account. I could however delete it from the TV, reinstall it (did not expect it to still be available for download…), list the TV’s IP-address In Plex as not needing authorisation, add the server manually and I am up and running again!
