Plex Keeps Auto-Correcting to Wrong Band Name

Server Version#: 1.43.3.10793
Player Version#: 4.160.0

I am trying to add a couple albums from a band names Vitruvia. However, Plex keeps changing the name to Vitruvian. No matter how many times I manually edit the albums, it always changes it to the wrong name. All of the metadata in the files is spelled correctly.

I’m not familiar with them but I don’t see a band with that name on https://musicbrainz.org, or at least with that spelling so plex must be auto matching it.

You could try and unmatch the album & artist or even add them on musicbrainz.

They aren’t in it, but it also isn’t matched in Plex, at least what it says. Doesn’t give me the option to fix the match, just match it.

Would you mind posting a screenshot of the tags for one of the tracks off the album and how the files are named on disk ? Server logs would also be helpful after doing a plex dance of the album.

Here is a screen grab of what Plex loaded after the Plex Dance, and also the ID-Tag details.

So I cannot be 100% sure as I’m a linux guy and windows is completely alien to me. However …

Jul 10, 2026 13:15:04.171 [436] DEBUG - Performing a scan with 'Plex Music' (language: en-US virtual: 0).

… this error scanning along with other errors related to F:\Music\Vitruvia in your logs could mean plex cannot read the files correctly and its tags and then its failing back to their cloud matching, Vitruvian vrs Vitruvia. I’d suggest fixing that error scanning and then try the plex dance again and see if it helps.

Otherwise lets see if someone else from plex or the community has any idea based on your logs.

Careful: you probably have only looked at the albums’ matched state. But this is about the artist. Click on the artist name, then look at the context menu of that artist.

Do you have “Prefer local metadata” enabled in the properties of your music library?
If you want to override metadata coming from Plex/Musicbrainz, you will likely need to tick that. But be aware that doing so requires all your other music to be tagged and organized perfectly as well.

That was it, thank you! Forgot that artist is matched separately. Went to the artist page, told it to unmatch, and boom! It is now correct.
