Plex keeps buffering then saying connection to slow

Server Version#: 4.59.2
Player Version#: Latest

Hi everyone,

It seems since the last couple of updates my Plex app on both my tvs refuses to play movies or shows higher the 720p, it buffers about 5 minutes of play back on initial play then throws a message saying my connection speed is too slow even if i manually drop quality way back to 480p. Both my tvs are connected via wired ethernet cables and have swapped them all out for new ones, web speed tests are all in the 900mbps range via each cable. Plex should be direct playing as it is all home network

Server is I5 7400, 16gb ram 250gb m2 for OS and Plex and a 2tb HDD to store files.

This issue only started happening in the last month or so. Any advice on what to do would be appreciated as it is basically making the whole setup pointless at the moment…

Cheers,
Brad

This is an issue with the Android client, however I’ve always been able to fix it by unplugging my TV for a few seconds and plugging it back in. Clearing the cache/force stopping it doesn’t seem to work. If resetting your TV doesn’t fix it, reset your tv but this time turn off the Plex Media Server (the program, not the device itself) and turn it back on before starting Plex on your tv again. It’s ridiculous you have to go through these steps but that should fix it at least temporarily. I tend to have to do this every 1-2 days.

Hi Madr_Aess,

Appreciate the quick response, I was seriously fretting thinking it was my hardware, even transferred the HDD from the old PC I was using to its current one with better specs just incase.

I will try it out now and fingers crossed it works!

Hi Madr_Aess, your trick works perfect whenever I have this issue. Thanks a bunch!
