I’m new to Plex and have uploaded a bunch of movies. I named the files on my computer with the required convention that has the proper name of the movie followed by (year) of release. The movies pulled into my Plex page fine, until apparently metadata started messing with them and changed them all (all 100+) back to their downloaded file names of “446x264 Garbled Partial mkv dunno” kind of crap. I spent yesterday afternoon changing the titles on Plex in both the title and sort fields, and making sure the locked turned orange on each field and that I had clicked “save changes.” Now as I click through them, the titles are changing back to crap titles as I view them. I know it’s the metadata refreshing again. How can I keep my file names? I wanted to share with friends and I was proud of how it looked, and I have a lot of fun doing this, but not if I have to rename every day. Any help would be most appreciated. Is there a way to actually prevent metadata from refreshing?
Please post the Plex XML info of one of the affected movies.
The easiest way is to remove the crappy metadata from your files; then Plex will stop trying to rename your movies. The other option, is to open your server, go to settings; the agents and make sure “local media” is at the bottom of the list.
I suffer from the same thing every 3-4 months. I can’t stand it! It makes my life a living hell after all the EFFORT i put into fixing names, posters, genres, sort titles, you name it. I was very proud of my collection and organization, but it’s now become pointless to even attempt cuz I have to start from scratch AGAIN. How can we prevent this?? What am I not doing correctly?
