i have an issue where i download a show and after adding it to the library it shows all this extraneous metadata in the title. i know the metadata in is the file not the nfo with my media manager. so what i am wondering is if plex can automatically rename the titles to match the movie it was matched to, right now i have to go through rename many movies when i add movies an the larger the amount of files the more work. also if i refresh all metadata i have to fix half my library. also this issue only happens with movies not tvshows i am not sure if this is a bug that happens or somethimes or is something exclusive to my setup
no… Plex won’t touch/rename your media. there’s apps who can - depending on your platform; take a look at e.g. FileBot.
depending how well you trust that metadata of yours you might be better off fixing the file names manually.
First: In settings/agents move “Local media assets” to the bottom of the list for at least “Movies” and “Shows” that way internal metadata will not override what Plex finds.
Second: Get your naming as close as possible to Plex Standards.

Third: You may need to do the Plex dance:
Move all the files to where Plex does not see it.
Update the library in Plex.
Empty trash.
Remove bundles.
Move all the files back into your Plex library.
Scan the library again.
