I run Plex media server on my Ausutor Nimbustor 4 NAS. I watch it through my Nvidia Shield TV
Every time i try and load the plex player app on my Nvidia Shield TV the app will crash and reload after around 10-20. This will happen every time i attempt to load the plex player app. I have narrowed it down to the Shield TV as i can watch my content through my PC with no issues.
No help other than to say I have the same problem. I’m dropping GTV to save the $$ and really want Plex to work for live TV.
The only way I can get Plex to NOT crash is turn off auto updates and uninstall all the updates. Problem is, that version does not have the LIve TV Option.
Same thing . I haven’t tried uninstalling updates as others have mentioned but the issue began near the beginning of the year. I see the issue across forums, so hopefully it is on Plex’s radar
After the latest update my current-generation Shield Pro lost it’s brain - the PMS configuration is wiped, and now it keeps stopping. Literally the only thing this does is PMS. I’m just gonna sell it. Wife likes Disney+ anyway, and it seems like PMS problems at least monthly. I regret buying a PP - it’s just not stable code, whether I run Linux, Windows, or Anroid:(
I have the same problem. Tried using old 4.28 player cause it worked for someone people, but I have the same issue. Shield Tube, stutters after 15-20 mins then crashes. 4K HDR files.
same here. works after crashing several times. but had to reboot the nvidia shield system (mine is the version before the newest shield pro that’s sold out everywhere). even then, sometimes, movie would pause in the middle for no reason.
Same here. Everything went screwy after recent updates. I’ve got the PMS stable on the shield. Casting from phone to shield works fine too so it must all be in the PMP o the shield.
Also having nVidia Shield TV (2019, non-pro) crashes. For me I’ve linked it to specifically having the “Refresh Rate Switching” setting turned on. When I watch 4K HDR 24p content and have that enabled usually the app will crash (after a brief tan circle spin) then restart and take me back to the plex home screen. I’ve tried new player and old player with the same result. I then signed up for the plex beta program for android-tv and still have the same issue on the 8.0 latest beta from today. Not sure if this is a PLEX app issue on its own, or if its a problem combined with the nvidia shield software (but there hasn’t been a shield update in a month or two) and plex used to work with refresh rate switching enabled… I suspect latest plex app update…
I’ve been having issues for month with my 2017 Shield. I think I finally got it stabilized by uninstalling updates for just PMS. I went into the play store, viewed installed apps, found the media server app and rolled back updates there. Upon relaunching the app, ensure the use server box is unchecked and you should be back in.
Rolling back updates on the box were just for the full app, not the server only. This assumes you have another server running somewhere and just want a player to work. That was the magic combo for me, fully updated app with a rolled back and deactivated server.
I recently moved my PMS back to a PC and off of the Shield. Thought I messed something up but it seems all the recent crashing of the player is not just me. This really needs to be fixed.
I have tried this workaround, so far it seems to be working for me. I have never run the PMS on the Shield in the past, but I never uninstalled the updates either. I believe that is the key.
I’ll report back as more time passes.
EDIT TO ADD WHAT I DID…

I have a NAS which I run PMS on due to the 2017 Shield not having much room on the internal hard drive.
I went into App Settings and uninstalled PMS updates so that it has been rolled back, then disabled it. Now Plex Media Player is working with no issues.
