All of a sudden, Plex seems to just keep crashing. I don’t believe I changed anything on my system (no new installs or uninstalls). After opening the server, a couple of seconds later it closes without warning. The only thing I’ve noticed is that after I turned off Guide Refresh for Live TV, the server would stay running a tad bit longer. I tried looking through the logs but didn’t see anything that jumped out at me. I’ve attached them in hopes that someone can help me out. Thanks.
I looked closer through my logs and noticed that there was a folder of Transcodes that the server was trying to open but was having problems. I deleted the folder and all contents inside.
But more importantly, I also removed my DVR/Live TV from Plex. As soon as I did that, Plex became more stable. I then reintroduced and configured Live TV and since then it’s been working well. Currently up for an hour which is way more than the 10 seconds I had before.
The crashes appear to be when processing EPG data and encountered some unexpected data.
If you could let me have by Private Message the territory and zip code used when setting up the DVR - can then try and replicate it and see if we get crashes
Please also provide list of all selected channels and EPG selection when DVR was setup
I’m not entirely sure the crash reason is the same, but 1.13.8.5395 keeps crashing daily under FreeBSD for me too. (Yes, I’m replying to a Windows-server thread with a FreeBSD server crash–but they may be related.) Prior to this version, Plex was quite stable. I’m too lazy to peruse the plethora of logs to see if my crash is EPG-related or transcode cache related, however.
I have noticed that when Plex Media Server does crash, there are no obvious log entries in the “Plex Media Server.log” file–log entries there just seem to suddenly end abruptly.
And when that process crashes, 2-4 Plex Plug-in processes linger, still running. For example, when I restarted things this morning, there were 4 lingering related processes:
We do not have crash reporting on FreeBSD so the only clues we would have would be from what was being logged before each crash and if it bears any similarity to logs seen for crashes from other platforms
So to start, upload logs zip captured after each crash. The more examples the better (and of course running with debug logging enabled)
The lingering processes is normal - these are the processes that did not crash and they get killed automatically when you relaunch Plex Media Server
I haven’t noticed crashing as much lately with subsequent newer versions. But just as an FYI, the lingering processes were NOT killed by restarting the Plex Media Server. The exact preexisting process IDs remained even after a fresh server start, and I had to manually kill them anyway.
Count me in for someone suffering constant crashes. Nothing has been changed in the configuration but Plex crashes at least 4 times per day when it is serving content. The weird thing is that these are direct play streams, so I have no idea why this is happening, but it’s ruining my entertainment experience.
Please upload logs so the crashes can be identified and any crash reports investigated. See my post above yours which links to support articles for debig logging and logs and please also ensure crash reporting is enabled - the setting it within server / settings / general / show advanced
