So i noticed in the past couple of days that my previously set up home screen has changed and includes files from different sources. Previously it was just a simple ‘on deck, tv, movies’ and that suited me just fine.
Now it is creating entries based on the name/location of the files - Documentaries, Documentaries Misc, TV Shows Weekly, TV shows General, Movies, 4k Movies etc etc…
I used to be able to edit these lists, but for the life of me i cannot find any way to do it either in the LG Plex App, or in the PMS Web interface. I’ve gone through the settings in the former and all the various menus in the latter with no success.
How do i just get the damn thing to show latest TV, Latest Movies and On Deck?
Many thanks in advance. Further update…
So it would seem what has entirely disappeared is what was formerly Hubs. There is no way it would appear to change what shows on the home screen, let alone reorder or remove some of the content. Whoever made that choice has to have a rethink because I utterly hate it.
That only allows me to choose/change what is ‘pinned’ on the side bar/panel. In ‘hubs’ I could change the order of the home screen in terms of the bigger part of the screen (not the pinned locations) - it combined all TV Shows, or Movies into a single linear format. Now it am presented with a line/row for each type of content (ie, 4k movies, non 4k, weekly tv, documentaries, misc documentaries etc etc)…
The previous version was just fine in this regard, why the hell do these people change things when the change is a backward step. argh!
For me we rarely use Home screen and use the Library view of each, TV, Movies, 4K, etc. This way if you leave it in Library when leaving, it stays put. If you part finished a show it has progress bar and not to hard to continue.
There seems to be two main camps of content consumption.
Via home Screen
Via a Category Library
I prefer the second as I do not collect TV shows for ever, yet my selected kept Movies are together and I have separate Movie Library for new, which I call Discovery.
From my screenshot i still don’t fully understand your gripe. This from PMS and it’s all you ask
Yes I probably agree, I have always just gone with the home screen, though I will hunt things out if needs be.
Where is that screen shot from, that isn’t from the Plex LG WebOS version is it? I certainly don’t have that, at the top of the screen, where it has name and a Plex logo I can access the settings menu, but there is nothing there about editing home. The ‘home’ sidebar has no 3 dots beside it which is where you used to go to access the hub I think…
Something has certainly changed and not for the better, but intrigued if that is from the latest Plex WebOS screen, what steps got you to the screen shot above… Thanks
perhaps, though silence doesn’t resolve the fact its a change that isn’t for the better - considering I stupidly keep paying for Plex, I would like to think someone who works there might see this and respond when we might expect a reversion to something that works as expected, even if its only by 1 user at this stage
Unfortunately at this point it your expectation of something that works as expected, the change seems intentional. I hope for your sake, barking out loud resolves it for you. I can only see disappointment, as for paying all the time the maths don’t lie. Get yourself a Lifetime Pass and it will soon pay off, unless your one of the fence sitters waiting for Freeware that is buggy as a Swamp after the rain.
I was not barking, that is rather offensive. The entire point of a forum such as this is to ask questions and to see if the experience in having is a shared one, and if it is a new feature, a mistake or some other reason. I don’t think there is much merit in insulting people for doing exactly what is intended here. I fail to see how removing a function that is pretty basic is helpful to any user, but then I think Plex are too busy putting effort into mediocre at best online tv viewing functions… trying to compete with Netflix etc. They might consider just doing what they used to do well. And no I’m not on any fence, I probably just didn’t imagine I’d still be using it six years later.
If you want something you must be heard, whispering does not work at all. If you think I was insulting, that was not intended and I’m offended in your inference. As for comparing Netflix with Plex your on your own buddy, that not cool calling Plex mediocre.
Your statement: I fail to see how removing a function that is pretty basic is helpful to any user, but then I think Plex are too busy putting effort into mediocre at best online tv viewing functions…
As for sitting on a fence your replies imply so much more.
I’m sorry you feel PLEX has let you down, but exhibiting your claim is the only way you will see your conceived UX to be realized.
+1 regarding the OG’s post. This change to the Home screen in the early access version of the LG app is horrendous.
To find anything that’s new, you’re now forced to scroll through every category of recently added, instead of a simple Recently Added TV or Recently Added Movies as was the case in Hubs. The goose who thought removing this was a good idea, needs a slap to wake them up.
Having said that, there are also major bugs with this change …
If you scroll down the Home screen, all categories generally display Recently Added correctly, but if you decide to scroll back up, then every single category is a replication of one of the categories, regardless of which one you choose. The only way to “correct” it, is to navigate into a library, then back to Home, and the various library categories will display sorted “normally” again. This is just a mess. Which developer put that into the wild without first checking such basic functionality? (Refer to my earlier comment re the need for a slap).
If you use the web interface to manage your libraries, and try changing the setting in Edit > Advanced > Exclude from Home, that’s literally what will happen. Not only will the library’s Recently Added category be removed from the Home screen, but so will any On Deck entries for a series, or any Continue Watching options, so resuming a show or movie becomes a major headache. You literally need to remember what you’ve watched, hunt for it in its library and resume it from there. You’ll never be able to do it from Home. (Again, refer to my earlier comment re the need for a slap).
In short, I’m with the OG … restore Hubs into the Early Access version of the LG app, because using it like it is is pissing off all of my users and myself. This is a change we didn’t ask for, and we certainly don’t need or want.
+1 from me too on this. At least add in a ‘Consolidate’ option where all media types accessible to that user are merged into a single Recently Added sorted by date/time. With this new arrangement some shows that have been added don’t appear as the library isn’t shown ( I’m assuming there’s a limit, but even if not, who wants to scroll down through pages each time?? )
I actually didn’t know about this change until just last night. I’ve been avoiding the LG Plex app on purpose due to the “buffering after FF/REW” bug.
The web app also has this change in recently-added row behavior, but I found out if I turn off the automatic management setting and go to manual Home Screen management it recombines the different media types again, but there is no such setting on the LG.
Ah,yes I see what you mean. It does sort of resolve the issue on the Web front end, but no change to the Plex LG app - which now seems to think my documentaries folder is the only TV show content I would want to see on my Home Screen. Not helpful to have just removed the ‘hub’ function without a superior replacement option.
One does ponder if Plex staff even look at these forums, they certainly don’t seem to comment like they used to do - an ode to the old days.
+1 about this being an option that should be selectable.
Not sure that SE56 is helpging the conversation here - if he doesn’t use the home screen then why is he bothering to be in this thread?
you can temporarily resolve it by turning off preview mode (I think it is called) andgoinf back to the old interface - I’m not sure how long this option will be available for though
Further to my original reply, as a lifetime Plex Pass holder, the longer I try to live with this change, the more I absolutely hate it. And I’m even more concerned that this is the planned future of all Plex apps, because I’ve noticed that the iPhone app seems to be mimicking this same behaviour as well.
I categorise all of my movies and TV shows into relevant libraries, so with this change, it means that I and my users have to scroll through more than 30 “recently added” options to see everything new that’s been added. I and my users are unanimous about this change; it’s a right-royal pain in the ■■■■!
Honest to God, whoever thought this was a good idea needs some lessons in UI and UX design and implementation, because this is just horrendous. You’ve taken something that was so simple and generally well thought out, and created one of the clumsiest user experiences of any media app I’ve ever used.
And so some weeks/months on, and this issue remains. It’s fairly clear the Plex folk mean for this to be how the LG App functions. I did see a recent server update references the Hubs function - reinstating it I think - but no luck with the LG App, it remains an overly cumbersome mess.
Whilst I’m sure many Americans will appreciate all the efforts Plex folk put into creating online content, as a non American who cannot actually gain any benefit from all these US centric features, I’m at the point where I will just cancel paying a monthly sub for Plex.
I think we can all assume that Plex aren’t going to revert the LG app back to a consolidation of ‘new media’ listings on the main screen. Thoughts from others?
There’s nothing “U.S.-centric” about this change in the home screen behavior. It’s just a dumb idea someone at Plex came up with without getting enough customer feedback or considering adding a simple toggle for to the settings.
