Plex Library Files Wont Scan

I have been having trouble with my Plex media server not wanting to sync my library files. When I first downloaded Plex it worked just fine. Then I added more files to my library and it won’t show up in plex even when I scan the library. I have the recommended naming format for all my files so that shouldn’t be an issue. (S01E01) I have uninstalled Plex and then re-installed the latest version still doesn’t show all my content in my library. I’m not sure what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions what I should try next?

have you made sure that your tv show content is in a tv show library?
Plex movie libraries will ignore tv show type content and vice versa.

Yes, everything is set up exactly as Plex suggests and was working just fine until I recently added more content to those folders on my hard drive.

examples please…
which agents do you use?
have you attempted to re-scan the library?

I have my tv shows folder set up correctly using tv show library type folder on the Plex media server. The names of the season and episode are set up like (show name) S01E01, which is one of the ways Plex suggests. Yes, I have done a re-scan of the library. It does not show up any of the new content that I have recently added. All the content in my media folder matches the format so it should all be being picked up. What do you mean by agents?

agents -> on the Plex start page, hover over the tv show library and click ... > Edit; in the Advanced tab you can find the “agent” used for this library.
An agent is the entity used by Plex which decides how Plex is looking for the content’s metadata

do you mind sharing a screenshot of one of the shows not loading (as organized on your file system)?

The agent is The TVDB.

That is a screenshot inside one of the files for this season that doesn’t show up on Plex. However, other identical files of earlier season do show up. Same naming format.

Apparently you didn’t…
Naming should be like this:

TV Shows ← your main folder which is linked in Plex to the tv show library
.. / Arrow (2012) ← the year helps if there’s more shows with similar names
.. .. / Season 04
.. .. .. / Arrow (2012) - s04e01.ext
.. .. .. / Arrow (2012) - s04e02.ext
.. .. .. / Arrow (2012) - s04e03.ext
.. .. .. / Arrow (2012) - s04e04.ext
.. .. .. / ...
.. .. .. / Arrow (2012) - s04e23.ext

you can use apps like filebot to do the renaming for you, or do it manually if it’s just single episodes

Okay, file naming format should be correct now unless it needs the date. I don’t think that is the case because season 1-3 of that show is picked up just fine with the same exact naming format.

I did a library scan and still, these episodes do not show up on Plex.

I went back and changed it so the date is in the name format like you suggested and now after a library scan no season of Arrow shows up.

if you have the year the show first aired in the file names, you need to also have it in the show’s main folder name.

how do you have those other seasons organized?
each of them in 1 central Arrow folder (or Arrow (2012))?

TV Shows
.. / Arrow (2012)
.. .. / Season 01
.. .. / Season 02
.. .. / Season 03
.. .. / Season 04
??

The file name of each episode needs to match this pattern:
[name of the show as in the show's main folder] - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext
in your case, one of the 2 options:

  • Arrow - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext
  • Arrow (2012) - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext
