I’ve been seeing a lot of people having issues with their Plex Live TV & DVR in the past few months. Instead of locating each thread and/or post and replying, I have decided to put my solution here in a new thread.
About 4 months ago, I updated Plex, PMS and also upgraded to a Lifetime Plex Pass. One or a combination of the three broke my Plex Live TV & DVR functionality. Plex no longer recognized my HDHomerun and I couldn’t watch or record any OTA content via Plex.
I kept receiving the error, “There was a problem discovering devices” whenever I tried to re-add the tuner in the Plex App. Tried tons of different solutions, that obviously didn’t work.
I am running Plex Media Server on my NVIDIA Shield TV (2017). This could also work if you are having the same issues on different server platforms. Please be advised that this will wipe your entire database out. Your content (ie movies, music, etc.) will still be there though.
I did all of the file location and deletion from my PC networked to the Shield TV. I think you could do it directly from the Shield TV using a File Viewer of some sorts as well.
Below are the steps I took to finally fix this issue after 4 months of frustration:
- Locate folder - “\PMS INSTALL LOCATION\shield storage\Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases”
- Back up all files in this folder to your PC before proceeding (just in case)
- Stop/Quit PMS
- Wait 1 minute
- Delete ALL items INSIDE the Database folder (do NOT delete the folder!)
- Restart PMS
- Wait a few minutes
- Restart Server for good measure (ie ShieldTV, PC, Linux, etc)
- Open Plex App if not already open (desktop app)
- Re-add Tuner
- Re-add Libraries/Directories
As soon as I deleted everything in the database folder and restarted everything, my HDHomerun was finally recognized and able to be configured in Plex for Live TV & DVR support!
Good Luck!
