I have some fairly specific questions related to Live TV in Australia, I’m having real trouble with the accuracy of the Programme Guide and other issues which may or may not be related to the EPG data.
So, for anyone in Australia, or specifically Sydney/ NSW:
1: Does the Plex app crash out on you if you try to tune to a service without a thumbnail? Either a radio service “ABC Jazz” or a regular TV service? I’m not sure if I have an Amazon Fire TV problem, an Ubuntu PMS problem, a Hauppauge tuner problem or Plex TV is just a bit dodgy still.
2: Has anyone else found the EPG to be hopelessly, hopelessy off? I’ve ended up setting up recordings 30 mins before and 30mins after the scheduled start and stop time (for a 45 minute show…) sometimes I miss the scheduled show completely.
I haven’t been in Aus that long and haven’t watched Aus TV until the boss (girlfriend) ordered it so and I got it running through Plex, so is EPG data inherently inaccurate across all channels? I’m guessing Plex is downloading the EPG from somewhere online, not taken OTA straight from the EIT or HbbTV/ Freeview Plus?
If I’m getting that right then (potentially very accurate as it can be modified in real time) schedule info from the EIT table of HbbTV data in the stream isn’t being used by Plex and it’s stuck with whatever schedule was downloaded online would be my guess.
When you ask Plex to remove the ads it does a pretty bad job of that too so again I doubt it’s responding to flags or data inserted in the stream unless of course that data is actually incorrect anyway…
Question for anyone:
Is it possible to point Plex at an EPG that’s vaguely accurate? I don’t know about the rest of Aus but Sydney/ NSW is unusable for setting up recordings.
Assuming that HbbTV and Freeview Plus data is licensed for some reason, why isn’t/ can’t Plex take the EIT direct OTA?
Does Plex extract anything from the stream (other than the bare-bones DVB tables in order to decode)? If not, then is this going to done in the future rather than downloading schedule data?
