Plex Live TV not accessible from iOS, FIreTV or Web interface

I have been investigating this issue on the forum, on the web, and even youtube with no luck.

I am running Plex on a Synology DS1515+ version 1.5.5.3634 (latest as of 06262017). I have enabled the DVR (beta) server, feeding from a HomeRun Extend with 14 channels found, 5 enabled (all I care about). The EPG has completed its update and I have successfully scheduled and viewed recordings.

What I cannot do with any viewer appliance: Web, iOS or FireTV is view live TV. In the case of the Web interface I can see the option, but after selecting Program Guide, then changing the drop down menu to Watch Now, Plex says I need to update the EPG. I have tried that suggestion but the outcome remains the same. Regarding iOS and FireTV there is only the option to view recorded items, but no option whatsoever to view Live.

My best guess that the DVR only option is the only one currently supported by the NAS version. If that isn’t the case I could really use some help to understand how to solve.

For Live TV you need to install PMS Version 1.7.2 or greater

Live TV requires Plex Media Server v1.7.2 or newer and you must set up the DVR in your server.

Live TV is a beta feature. Live TV is only currently available on iOS and Android TV players as mentioned in pages describing it. You need at least version 1.7.2 of Plex Media Server ,which at the time of me writing thi, is a Plex Pass only preview version of server. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/115007689648-Watching-Live-TV

If you do not have your “Update Channel” set to Plex Pass then the auto update will not tell you about Plex Pass versions. Plex Pass versions are generally to be considered beta/prerelease/preview versions which some folks do not want to use and accidentally download which is why you need to specifically decide to get those versions. You change the Update Channel in Settings>Server>General. Update Channel is at the bottom of those settings. If your version of server for your device Server is installed on does not support autoupdate you can of course just download the update from the downloads page at https://www.plex.tv/downloads and install it manually.

OK - thank you Paul. As usual what is the obvious isn’t quite at first blush.

When telling Plex to update to the latest, it only checked for the latest version based on major/minor installed. So each time I tried to update via the server itself, it only updated to 1.5.X.X, not to the most recent 1.7.X.X. I had to go to the site, pull down the latest from the Web UI then load it. I can now interact with Live TV. I should not have relied on the internal update process.

Big Wheel - thanks for that key piece of info. I have changed the Update Channel to Plex Pass.

Upside here is now someone searching for this issue may find it given the stumblingly around that I did.
