Plex lLIFETIM member Frustration over non existant support

Why does PLEX HIJACK my device whenever PLEX execs want to add ad content instead of leaving me in peace???

I spent way over an hour yesterday trying, in vain, to find a way to contact the people who actually own and are responsible for PLEX at corporate or at least a Tech. Therefore, I am posting this to the groups in the hopes that someone with a brain, and not a nasty person with a chip on their shoulder, will actually CARE & respond.

I signed up for a Lifetime Membership, but did not expect to be FORCED to have PLEX constantly invade my privacy!!

I’m 79 and just want to watch my favorite programs in PEACE! I TRY to use LAUNCH instead of Upgrade, but it sometimes circumvents me (Hijacks) before I can quickly choose LAUNCH!!! It also forces me to have to re-order all of my entire folders & settings in order to move the PLEX AD CRAP to the bottom of my screen!!! Are we now living in RUSSIA, where Putin gets to call all of the shots???

I LOVED PLEX for many years and even recommended it to others when I hosted a Blog called “Cutting the Cord”, on which I posted info for people who wanted to get rid of their overpriced cable TV. ! I had hundreds of followers and even though I ended the Blog, I still get occasional messages from people who want my help. Now, at the end of my life and all I want is to turn on the TV and NOT have to deal with unending CRAP! Needless to say, I no longer recommend PLEX to anyone!

There should be a way to OPT OUT of these endless upgrades!!, without having to buy some PEACE, the way game sites force us to pay to stop the endless SPAM!! Afterall, we bought a LIFETIME membership without all this crap and now, after over a decade, we are saddled with ads!

While you cannot (and shouldn’t) opt out from app or server updates… you can disable the online media sources you don’t like via the web app (instead of unpinning them or ordering them to the bottom of your sidebar):
https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

The only situation I’m aware of where users had problems with Plex “forgetting”/losing your customization was related to the web app and certain browser configurations (or add-ons) which blocked/deleted the client configuration of Plex.

While I appreciate your response, I would have to torture myself or plead with my VERY techie daughter to make the changes that you suggest. I really am at the end of my life and I do not want to waste any of the time I have left. She went into the settings and restored some of my settings! Unfortunately, the REAL Pain in the neck, with PLEX and other apps, is the constant crap we are FORCED to deal with. my suggestion of an OPT OUT feature would eliminate ANY of the need to make the necessary changes to return to MY preferences!!!

Thank you.

I’ll show this to my daughter to see what she has to contribute to this situation.
She’s an award winning techie, who saves lives and equipment, She just aided Elon Musk’s SpaceX project.

I agree that users should be able to opt out of updates. User’s system, user’s call.

Even Microsoft lets you pause Windows updates.
