Hi there. I have a Plex server with 5 users, main one with a pin code, the others are managed users (me and my wife, my kids and in-laws). Main user is only used for maintenance (think of it as “root” user in a unix computer), while we all use our assigned managed user for watching contents. However, if anybody should reinstall and linking to server their plex app on their mobile phone, login to the main “root” user is automatic, no pin needed, instead of initially being presented with the user selection screen. Is there any way I can force user selection after installing and linking?
Well, if my kid is in college 100km away what you say doesn’t make much sense either
Thanks anyway for your reply.
That’s ONE example of what a managed user can be. Another could be my kid who goes to college 100km away, and comes back every month, but decides he wants plex installed. If it was your kid he’d have to wait until he’s back home… Yeah, he’d be happy with you… Ot you can travel 100km to link it…
Well, if anyone else knows how to prevent bypassing the pin-code… Thanks a lot!
Create a full plex.tv account for your kid. (No Plex pass needed)
Then invite this account into your Plex Home.
Et voila: Fast user switching still possible, but login happens with his own credentials. So he is in his own account right from the start.
Thanks Otto. Yes, I tried that in the past, but then Plex for Android isn’t free for him since he doesn’t have a pass (I have a lifetime one though). I guess I could go ahead and do an in-app purchase for his phone (although paying once again after having a lifetime subscription doesn’t make me happy).
I any case, I wish Plex could consider not allowing the pin-code bypass after linking and showing the user selection screen instead
Thanks!
I very much doubt that is going to happen. The Plex Pass / Plex Home combination was not designed to bypass the fee for the mobile apps for anyone you want to share with, hence the restrictions on Managed User usage that you are running into.
That is only true if you invite him as a ‘friend’.
If you however invite him into your Plex Home, he can use the mobile plex app for free, just like a ‘managed user’.
Hi Otto. That’s excellent! Thanks for sharing that tip.
Cheers,
Ignacio
