I know it;s not vital but as an intellectual exercise, I’m trying to get Tautulli access to Plex logs. PMS is up to date running in a Synology on DSM 7. The folder path to the logs is /volume1/@apphome/PlexMediaServer/Plex Media Server/Logs but Tautulli can’t see it (seems it can’t see anything other than the tautulli folder)
Anyone got any advice (other than “don’t worry about it”?
When installing Plex, specify an alternate log location that can be reached by Tautulli (ex: /volume1/plex/logs).
You’ll need to uninstall/reinstall Plex.
Choose a location for the log files. Make sure the user PlexMediaServer has read/write access.
Uninstall choosing Uninstall Only, which keeps all settings for future installation
Re-install.
I just did a server update and changed the folder path to one I created in /volume1/docker/tautulli but it’s still not working. I added full control permissions for PlexMediaServer but Tautulli still says no such file or directory. Not sure what I’m missing.
update: I downloaded the logs and the change I thought I made didn’t work because the logs are still in the original location. I’ll try again next time there’s an update available.
The entire Plex data folder, not just the logs, will be moved to /plexmediaserver. It is the equivalent of the /plex folder when running DSM 6, and restores the capability to do things such as backing up the folder (and Plex database) with Hyper Backup.
When it goes into affect, you’ll need to tell Tautulli to look in the new location for the log files.
There is a preview release currently available. At some point the changes will be worked into the full releases. See the below thread for details.
Thanks for the info. Just to be clear, are you saying that once it comes into effect, the option to move the logs will no longer be available? Tautulli can only see it’s own directory, so if we can no longer move Plex logs, Tautulli will not be able to access them.
Learnt a lot but i cannot see how you change this setting above, my Philips HUE works off the above setup so when a film plays it does a webhook and dims the lights on play.
I cannot see how you can change to
/PlexMediaServer/AppData/etc
Did you manage to change this?
Hang on a bit. The updated packaging (“2.0”), which is in preview, brings the metdata directory out to where it is accessible for Tautulli as well as HyperBackup
maybe I’m missing something but that’s why I said “sounds like that will be changing”. At the moment, the path to the logs isn’t accessible (or is it and I just haven’t worked out how to do it?)
If you setup Tautulli now, using the existing path (which is the system buried one), you’ll need to change it again when the package version 2.0 is released to production
-or-
You can join the Preview now (I have 1.24.0 repackaged locally).
If you use the new packaging, there are a few small caveats.
I spell out everything here.
Please read in its entirety before installing because there is no way to roll back to the current “Production” (plex.tv) packages.
In a few weeks, this “2.0 Preview” will be official "production’ status so all will be good.
for some reason, I’m now getting permission denied again when trying to access the logs in Tautulli. The logs are now in the Plex Media Server folder and I’ve added the path so Tautulli can see it but yeah, permission denied. It was working perfectly before the latest update when I had the logs moved to the tautulli folder, should have left it alone.
