Still didn’t work. Even tried to load Microsoft updates which I hadn’t taken in the last few years to make sure everything was up on my Windows 7. I hope somebody can come up with an answer. It just continues to say looking for Server even though I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled everything.
UPDATE: Via the Start Menu on Windows 7 I right clicked and selected “Restore previous versions”, upon which I followed the process, closed Plex in the tray and relaunched. It didn’t work at first, but upon signing out and back in again and launching Plex, things seem to be up and running again - thank god! Gonna live on the edge now and update to see if I can make it work with latest software too…
UPDATE 2: It appears to be up to date already - don’t ask me why - but what seems to have made it all work is logging in via Your.IP.Address:32400/web/index.html# as opposed to how I always used to log in, app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=o… Which now consequently seems to ALSO work… Don’t ask me what’s going on here, confused AF! But it’s working, at least!
Hi there,
Did you ever manage to make this work?
Everything on my Plex was working just fine - have been using Plex for years and years, so this isn’t my first rodeo, nor is it the first time I’ve had this specific issue; only the first time I’ve ever been unable to resolve it - but I updated Google Chrome and saw there was a new Plex update; upon updating both, Plex completely broke, and I’ve been unable to fix it, no matter what I do.
Did you ever find a solution?
I’ve yet to do a clean uninstall/reinstall, but I did a repair with the new update, and while all other software is working just fine, this latest update has completely broken Plex.
What a joke, given that when you update something, it ends up breaking. Ridiculous.
No never did. Ended up canceling it. Thanks
And here I am, after another update, undergoing exactly the same frustration again…
Honestly - per the very same question I asked in my prior reply - what’s the point of updating when it just ends up making things worse!?
I spent way more time than I should have trying to fix this problem. None of the posted solutions worked for me but then I tried the “nuclear option”
I uninstalled Plex using Revo Uninstaller which does a very good job of removing traces of programs that have been uninstalled using this excellent app.
Next, I used CCleaner which picked up a couple more traces of Plex on my computer
I then went to Regedit and searched for “Plex”. This also found a few remaining scraps. Be careful of just deleting everything the Regedit displays as a search for “Plex” finds words the include those letters such as “multiplex”. Just delete the stuff that clearly associated with the Plex program.
Finally, and this is probably the most important step, I went to the Appdata folder in the C:/users folder and deleted the entire Plex Media Server folder. I call this the “nuclear” option as it removes, among other things, the existing Plex database, requiring a re-scan of all the folders that you would like Plex to inventory.
The final step is to restart the computer and reinstall Plex Media Server. In my case this worked perfectly. When I opened the app, I was greeted with a message telling me that there was an unclaimed server waiting for me to claim. I did that, re-selected the various folders that I wanted Plex to monitor and everything now works great.
It should have been an easier process but all is well that ends well.
