Weird problem here. I have a TV show and several episodes already available. Plex has matched the title of this show as “TV Show Title (US)”. Fine. But when I record the show it always records as, “TV Show Title”, which means I have to manually fix match every time it records a new episode. I thought maybe I could just fix the match for the whole series to “TV Show Title”, but that’s not even an available option. The only option Plex finds is, “TV Show Title (US)”. Any advice? TIA!
Does the naming follow the Plex naming guidelines?
If you are using the “Plex TV Series” agent, you can optionally include the TMDB or TVDB show ID in the folder name to improve matching. If you choose to do that, it must be inside curly braces: ShowName (2020) {tvdb-123456} or ShowName (2020) {tmdb-123456} where 123456 is the show ID. An example can be found at the end of the article.
Many thanks for this. I am using the Plex TV Series agent. I looked up the show on TVDB and it’s actually the same thing. Here’s the show: The Cleaning Lady (US) - TheTVDB.com
See how the title is The Cleaning Lady (US)? It’s exactly the same on the Plex TV Series agent. But when I record new episodes with Plex DVR it records them under the series title: The Cleaning Lady (there’s no “US” after the title). So, Plex doesn’t recognize that it’s the same show. Which means I have to fix match every week when it records new episodes.
As for the Plex Naming scheme, can I change what the DVR calls the file? I didn’t think I had control over that.
The EPG data used for DVR recordings is unique and does not correspond directly with the data from the regular library metadata agents. A show recorded via DVR will not match using the library agent but will keep the existing data it got from the EPG.
That’s not really ideal as with TV Shows the episode/season numbers from your EPG may not align with the TVDB/TMDB data which is why it’s better to keep a separate DVR library.
