Live TV Recording going to wrong TV show listing

I’m having an issue with recording some live tv shows where Plex is sending it to an incorrect series in my TV shows directory.

I am recording the reboot of the show Quantum Leap on NBC. I have the original series from 1989 and the reboot season 1 from 2022 as two “shows” in my TV Shows library. The issue is that Plex takes the new recordings for the reboot and adds them to the last season from the 1989 series.

I have the folders setup as the series name with the year of release. I also have all the indivudal files named with the same format that the recordings are automatically saved as.
An example is below:

NAS/TV Shows/01 Quantum Leap (2022)/Season 01/Quantum Leap (2022) - S0XE0X - [EpisodeName].ts

(These are the recordings. They are automatically saved with that naming convention and the .ts file extension)

NAS/TV Shows/02 Quantum Leap (1989)/Season 0X/Quantum Leap (1989) - S0XE0X - [Episodename].mkv

(These are mkv rips from my DVD collections)

Last season I would manually copy the file to the correct directory and rescan my library to correct the issue. Has anyone else ran into a similar issue and figured out a way to correct it? I haven’t been able to find a way to manually specify a single folder for just this scheduled recording.

Stop mangling your metadata, you are working against the Plex Server.

If your using the proper agent in the library settings :

Don’t put A, B, C, 01, 02 etc in front of the show name. Recorded shows take the metadata directly from the EPG, once you move it or rename it all is lost. It’s possible your EPG data is wrong but it is most likely your activity that is messing things up. Plex goes by file date added for continue watching and if you copy things around your modifying the date.

Thank you for the suggestion. I only added the 01 and 02 after the issue occurred. It was something I did to try and get the reboot to maybe be seen first. It did not work, and I never changed it back. All my other shows follow the standard naming convention as detailed here: Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files | Plex Support

I’ll change it back and see if it makes a difference when the new episode airs on Wednesday.

Is there a way to check the EPG data that it is using for a show? Is this just the information the guide presents to me?

I went to the Library settings and did not see the “Scanner” and “Agent” dropdowns. I also checked advanced settings. Is there somewhere else I should look for those options?

TV Shows → actions(3 vertical dots) → manage library-> edit → advanced.

It’s just the info that the guide presents to you. Usually it is the episode synopsis that is different between TMDB and the EPG.

Here is how the DVR created the directory.
