Hi all,
apologies if this has already been covered but im struggling to find a definitive answer.
I have been running plex for years to stream photos, videos etc from a desktop computer to the smart Tvs and wireless devices in and out of the home.
i am moving into a flat with a friend shortly and basically do not have room for a desktop computer as well to act as the media center.
what i have been considering is buying an android tablet, one with USB port for external hardrives and micro USB for charging. I have found one suitable for that need already.
What i then wanted to do was install the Plex media center (like what is on the desktop computer) to the tablet to allow sharing/streaming of the content of the tablet/hardrives across the smart TV’s and wireless devices. that way it can just sit on a bookshelf plugged in on a nice dock and left alone.
My question is is this possible? i have found a number of the discussions about the actual app on android but cant find anything about the media center.
thanks
Dave

No, PMC doesn’t run on android. PMC was also retired as an app many many many moons ago.
So with PMC no longer available is there no other way of doing what i want to do with an android tablet with the hard drives attached as my main route to accessing the media through the other plex apps i have on other devices. im guessing Plex media server replaced PMC
If not i have got a back up plan of using a raspberry pi but i would prefer a tablet.
Plex Media Server is not able to be run on an android tablet.
If you want something smaller due to not having space look into the Nvidia Shield as it can function as a server and client. Make sure to do some reading up on it however as I’ve seen reports that if you have a large library it may not be suitable. I do not own one however, so I can’t speak to this issue.
