I don’t say this often but as a customer and Plex advocate, I beg you to stop further development of PMP v2 and develop a version of PMP that is stable and has a Plex consistent look and feel with common UI controls and interactions. There are so many things wrong with PMP v2 that I even wonder if it was developed by Plex.
The disastrous UI has an inconsistent look and feel with controls that are plain wrong and counter-intuitive. I mean to click UP to see library categories? Who came up with that? Also, UI animations for every, single item in a list view. Why? So I need to wait 3 seconds before I can see the last list item on screen? Plex Home Theater shows me every list in milliseconds. Not to mention the 12 point text so you can’t read anything if using PMP on an iMac sitting 5 feet away. PHT has nice big text that can be read from a distance.
Channels in every other Plex client are their own main category. In PMP v2 beta I accidentally found Channels by scrolling all the way down on the home screen. To be greeted by full-size icons per channel. Joy!
If that isn’t bad enough, depending on the weather outside, PMP opens the app in web view or desktop view or whatever it feels like showing that day. And it’s so obvious on how to switch views. Not. Why have a web view mode in the first place? Isn’t that what browsers are made for? PMP is a desktop app so it needs to behave like a desktop app with a working full-screen mode that does not require having to switch to front manually. Argh.
As a product manager myself I understand this is a beta. And that you need user feedback to see what works and what doesn’t work. Some of the technical features are great but the usability disaster is taking away that value-add.
This fan tells you that PMP v2 beta does not work and that it frustrates rather than delights this user.
