Why can’t I get Closed Captions on Plex Media Player? They work on the Web Player. I stopped using the Web Player because it hangs or takes forever to continue playing after using the forward or backward arrows. So now, I use the Desktop Plex Media Player exclusively.
Plex Media Player is no longer actively developed. You might want to check out Plex HTPC or the Plex for Windows desktop app.
I’m sorry, I’m using Plex for Windows Version 1.43.4.2971-aa2133cc, my mistake. Thanks for the heads up though. Do you know of any reason that Plex for Windows would be unable to display closed captions?
Is this about local media with „embedded“ captions or live tv / recorded live tv?
Is the CC track properly showing as an option in the video of Plex?
Closed captions sometimes come in some weird encodings which make them hard to recognize as an actually selectable track.
This is about Plex for Windows, Live or Playback, Subtitles from the lower righthand 4th icon from the left which brings up a drop down menu on which has an item:
Subtitles - Unknown (Closed captions) with a check
- Search
- Upload - choose file - Drag & drop
the Choose file option hangs the app and I have to exit Plex for Windows and restart it.
In Plex Web it comes up with Subtitles - Unknown (Closed captions) with a check
same as Plex for Windows however the captions appear over the video like they’re supposed to.
during playback I never tried the Search or Upload in Plex for Web since the captions work fine there. I would just use Plex Web but it’s slow to respond and often hangs when using the forward/backward arrows.
Sorry I haven’t been more explicit and truly appreciate your attention.
