I don’t see anywhere to download Plex Media Player; the functional one that allowed for administering the libraries and such. Is this player now dead?
For three or four years.
Use Plex Desktop or Plex HTPC instead, available at plex.tv.
Plex Desktop looks like Plex Web.
Plex HTPC looks like the Smart TV apps.
I did install Plex desktop, but there are no options in the “Fix Match” selection other than Plex Movie Legacy available in there or in Plexweb. Plex Media Player used to let you use a dropdown list to select a different media agent (The Movie Database)
That behavior is expected and by-design for the current-generation Plex Movie agent.
With that agent you can include an IMDb or TMDb reference as matching hints (e.g. tmdb-72105 or imdb-tt1637725 for “Ted (2012)”).
I am a newbie to this; is there some reference to using/finding these hints on IMDB etc?
for IMDB and TMDB they are in the URL when on a page for a movie or tv show. for TVDB the series ID is on the main show page
Using the Plex Series agent if you are naming TV shows based on TVDB or TMDB you change the “episode order” setting in the tv library’s advanced setting to set a default for the library or you can edit individual shows like if a particular show is named based on TVDB (DVD) episode order.
