Plex Media Player Download

I use Plex for Home Theater on multiple machines but on one of them the program freezes when playing movies since I upgraded to Win10. It worked flawlessly before and uninstall / new install didn’t help. Neither did changing various settings or searching the web and the forums here. So the only player I can use is the web player :-(.

Wanted to give the Plex Media Player a try but it seems only available using the Windows Store which I don’t use. So my question: can Plex Pass Members download the app somewhere else? Thank you for your support.

The store version is not Plex Media Player. That is the Plex Windows App. You can get Plex Media Player from the download page on the website, https://www.plex.tv/downloads/. Just make sure you are logged in with your Plex Pass account and set the Plex Pass download option on.

Thank you for the swift answer! Found the download link now (I must have been blind, sorry ;-)) and the player seems to work fine.

Pity is, it doesn’t have all the nice options the Home Theater has, though :-(.

Might anyone know a remedy for the Home Theater freezing the image after a while (some minutes up to an hour…) while audio continues for a little bit before it stops as well? The app worked under Win7 but started to show this error after the upgrade to Win10. Interestingly enough, another of my PCs upgraded without showing this problem.

Have you looked at OpenPHT?
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/222972/release-openpht-1-6-2/p1

Did you install pht before or after upgrading Windows? I’ve seen several issues, not just with pht, where the upgrade messed up installed programs. They reinstall pht and even pms if they are on the same computer that was upgraded.

Both, actually. PHT was installed, then upgrade -> broken. Uninstall, reinstall -> PHD still freezes.

I guess I’ll give the Open PHT a try over the weekend. On the other hand, I’m tempted to just format the disk and do a clean install but I dread the work…

Did you try Plex Media Player?

Yes. Media Player actually works longer before freezing. However, I don’t like the lack of functionality (i.e. no zoom, no delay/advance subtitles) so I’ll stay with PHT.

I guess either my Win10 installation is buggy or I need an update of the graphics driver as all my other installations work flawlessly.

Feedback on Open PHT: nice software but crashes often on my machine (usually when pressing ESC). But again, we established that my OS doesn’t seem to be stable, right?

It’s more likely your display drivers. Try disabling true fullscreen mode and see if it’s stable. If not, wipe the drivers with display driver uninstaller (DDU) and reinstalling the latest drivers for your video card. OpenPHT is solid for me.

Indeed, looks like nvidia was the culprit. Updated the drivers and tested with OpenPHT without any more glitches. Let’s hope the system stays stable now

Good new is that I learned about OpenPHT which will potentially become my favourite Plex player. It has one great advantage over the ‘regular’ PHT: it allows changing subtitle delays of more than 10 seconds which

Thanks to all for your support!
