I am running PMS on my Asustor 6404T NAS. As it has a decent Celeron CPU I am also using this device as the player. Until recently only OpenPHT was available for Plex playback and that worked really well. Now OpenPHT is no longer supported and there is an unofficial Plex Media Player version available. This, however, is not functional. It does not start properly and the few times I managed to start a video it flickered and was unwatchable. The Asustor support replied that this is a known issue and they claim that they are waiting for Plex to supply some information so they can fix the issues. As the last release of this Plex Media Player was in July I am a bit worried that nothing will happen leaving me stranded with a device not fit for the intended purpose. I am grateful for any suggestion.

Well, as I mentioned in my post, there is an unofficial version for Asustor that unfortunately is not yet working properly. My hope was that either somebody here had the same problem and solved it or somebody from Plex is reading this and supplying the information required to fix the Asustor version. After all that should be in the interest of Plex.
So what better way than have somebody do it for them, as seems to be happening…
