Same issue on windows 10 web application and iPad. My primarily use case is for NFL games to replace DirectTV.
Same issue for me. I have been using PlexPass for last several months. I record football games every weekend and prefer to start watching about 1 hour into it and skip through the commercials. But this feature doesn’t work on various platforms (Roku ultra, roku 4K stick, or Android TV) When you try to scan past commercials it just goes back in time and gets stuck for live recordings you just have to watch the commercials. You can only scan reliably through the commercials when the recording has completed. I use HD Homerun Connect Duo and currently using Plex Media Server 1.16.1.1291-158eb199 on an I7 Laptop. Plex engineers, please fix this!!! This is nearly a show stopper for a DVR in my mind! Potential PlexPass subscribers take note!! This issues has been around for many months!
On a side note, if I tune to football game , then pause it and get behind the live recording, it seems I can scan commercials without a problem, but in this case the item is not being recorded to my shows and if I accidentally change the channel, I run the risk of clearing out the pause / playback buffer.
Just replying so this tread doesn’t die.
Hopefully they fix before the 1 year anniversary of the first post.
I’m strongly considering buying a Plex Pass lifetime subscription, but this issue would kill my primary use case. I’m happy with the free version features, except with the loss of WMC, I need a solution to start recording a live show (sports) and then watch from beginning to skip commercials.
@Plex, do you plan to fix this or should I be looking at Emby instead? Thanks!
For me I have pretty much tried them all over the last six months. None of them works as well as Channels DVR. I hate paying that $8.00 a month but I hold out hope that Plex will get it fixed and then I will get a lifetime pass. I received an early Christmas present of a Synology DS218+ and I gave Plex and Emby another chance and both can’t hold a candle to Channels DVR when it comes to DVR service. Maybe it is a case of jack of all trades master of none. This morning I time shifted an in progress recording on my weakest channel just as a test. I did everything I could do to make Channels DVR crash. I went back and forth like a madman and Channels just kept chugging along. IMHO save yourself the frustration and spend the money for Channels. Plex has known about this problem for a year and half and has not addressed it yet. They keep coming out with new features but the core service of DVR sucks.
I have the same issue as everyone else. Wish there was a fix. I have tried various things on the server thinking it was my configuration. Like forcing Direct Play, Moving Transcode folder from SSD Disk to HDD. Etc… Non makes any difference.
Scary this has been broken for a year and PLEX has not addressed the issue. As a Plexpass lifetime member this saddens me.
PLEX needs to get on the ball because Emby is now far better and way more functional for live TV.
I fully agree with this sentiment. I committed to Plex via a Lifetime Plex Pass, many years ago. Now, it seems that they are more interested in bloating the software with partially functional features rather than actually completing the full customer value for its users. I’ve avoided considering other solutions like Emby, despite friends of mine having great success. I guess it’s about time to look into other solutions, and see if they do a better job than Plex does with basic functionality like LiveTV / DVR, at a minimum.
Plex Product Management / Devs, please try to focus on working thru bugs and technical debt on your existing features before adding more, which will undoubtedly be buggy as well, thus creating a very viscious cycle. It’d also be nice if there were an official way to submit bugs / feature requests. Is there an official process for that? Bugzilla anyone?
I would love to try Channels, but they don’t have a roku app
Bump. Same issue for me. Keeping the thread alive for hope for a fix.
Happy Anniversary!
Fun fact… I switched from the onboard Android TV on my Sony x900f over to an nVidia Shield TV Pro a couple weeks ago… The skip issues are resolved; EXCEPT for one thing. If you skip more than 120s, then the audio becomes out of sync.
Uggh… I’ve been experiencing this same issue lately now that I’ve been watching more live TV and finally just realized that it’s reproducible if you try to skip back to a previous show. Seeing that it was reported over a year ago and not a single word from anyone with PLEX isn’t exactly encouraging. It’d be nice if you guys actually fixed your existing bugs before trying to add more half-working features. Until you guys get your priorities straight then I suppose it’s time to see what Emby has been up to lately…
Bumping this. Have had a lifetime PlexPass for like 5 or 6 years at this point, never got around to getting live TV set up. Finally jumped on board so I can watch local news and stuff while working from home. Scrubbing/timeshift issues are occurring for me as well. PMS running on Debian, playback devices are Win10 Plex app and Firestick player.
Just paid for my first month of plex pass - and somewhat dumbfounded at had badly the live tv works. I assumed it must be something with my setup until finding this thread. Using the roku app it gets very confused when trying to fast forward programs I have started a few minutes in… fully recorded programs are a bit better but randomly seek fwd/back will stop working as the progress bar suddenly thinks a 30 minute program is 13 hours long… so the location indicator is way off the screen. Coming from a windows media PC setup this is crazy… I am not going to pay for this when i can resurect the media center epg at a similar cost
The roku seeking issues were identified and fixed recently. Those fixes will be in the next official update. You can give the Preview a try now if you don’t want to wait.
First I love plex. And all the multimedia at home goes around.
Second. It is hard to understand that the shift functionality doesn’t get fixed.
It simply hard to watch TV with a basic function that does not work. We use it everyday, and it fails everyday. Please take a look at it.
Thanks
Jose
Disappointing, bought a lifetime pass and time shift just doesn’t work. Please fix it or give me a refund!!!
I completely switched over to Plex from WMC and it has been WONDERFUL, except the issue with live TV. Please fix it.
That’s great for Roku users, but what about Android users who have been dealing with this bug for nearly 1.5 years now?
