Can you point me to a recent thread discussing the issue on Android? I know there have been fixes to Live TV and I don’t see any open issues reported internally.
Anyone still having an issue with PMP, please reproduce and provide me logs from PMS and PMP.
Can you point me to a recent thread discussing the issue on Android? I know there have been fixes to Live TV and I don’t see any open issues reported internally.
You’re looking at one now. Several users within this thread have mentioned that it’s an issue with their Android devices. It has not been fixed.
It’s a very simple issue to reproduce on any Android TV device. Start playing live TV and let it play until a new show starts. Once you’re a few minutes into the show, use the “skip back” button and you’ll be taken to the previous show you were watching instead of 10 seconds back in the current show.
It would be great if someone would also look into the bugs posted 10 months ago in the threads below since it’s currently impossible to pause live TV for more than 3 minutes without losing your stream.
(logs attached here: Plex Client Can't resume paused live tv after long pause - #18 by CodeCat5)
I haven’t read through the entire thread, but the topic and tags indicate it’s for Plex Media Player, which is not the same as the Android client. If there isn’t another thread dedicated to discussion for Android, that could explain why it hasn’t been looked at before.
So… Does someone need to create a new thread in order for this to be addressed? It was easy enough to use Ctrl+F to search for mentions of “android” in this thread to see where other people have mentioned the issue. I just found it through a simple Google search originally.
edit
While we’re on the subject of time shifting, here’s another 1.5 year old bug that apparently hasn’t been addressed.
Yes, please start a new thread with logs so we can track the issue.
I mean, it should be easy enough to reproduce the bug yourself and get your own logs. To be quite frank, it’s a bit annoying when you guys treat paying customers more like beta testers.
So for this to be addressed, what forum exactly does it need to be posted in and what does it need to be tagged with? Besides including the logs, any other specifics that need to be done to ensure it’s addressed?
I can’t reproduce, that’s why I need logs fro those that are affected.
Since your issue is for Android TV, create the thread in the Plex Player/Streaming Devices. Tag it with Android TV.
Provide the exact steps you are performing and include the logs showing those steps. Also include details on your server in case this is a server issue, but seeing that this issue was fixed for Roku, it is likely a client issue. And no, looking at the fix for the Roku doesn’t help.
What device did you test with? How long did you leave live TV playing before trying to skip back?
@anon18523487 is there any update on the initial bug for Plex Media Player (not relating to Android TV). It’s been 18 months since I originally created this thread and explained in detail exactly the steps involved in reproducing the bug 100% of the time, but there has been no acknowledgement or activity in this thread from Plex.
I cannot provide any logs since I canceled and got rid of Plex when there was no activity on this. However, it should be extremely easy to reproduce by following the steps in my original post. The biggest factor is you must let TV play for at least 1 full 1-hour program change (so it jumps -1:00:00 when you seek)
I found that this issue is related to another that had been reported before and awaiting a fix. Unfortunately, it is not an easy fix and requires a significant amount of work. With the support of PMP going down, there isn’t a lot of resources available to get to this.
I have this issue on the web client, Samsung TV app, and Android app.
Watching live TV, pause, resume play, attempt to skip a commercial by skipping forward with remote. Playback will restart where originally started. Very frustrating!
Sounds like an issue with PMS. Have you posted logs? If so, please point me to that thread. If not, please start a new thread for PMS and provide details and logs after reproducing the problem.
I agree with @mmorbach777_gmail_com. I did not want to pay the $80 per year for ChannelsDVR, but it was worth the frustration. I did pay for the life time subscription, so I do hope to come back to Plex one day but I don’t think the seeking problem will be fixed soon.
LiveTV is not usable with Plex at the moment for me (and my setup: server Ubuntu, client AppleTV)
ChannelsDVR just works, rewind/forward works whatever I tried:
- Start from the beginning
- Watch Live
- Overlapped schedule
On side note:
- You can preview the program during seeking on LiveTV (do not have to wait the recording is done for post-generation of thumbnails)
- Skip commercials is flabbergasting
IMHO, it’s not perfect though, (e.g.: cannot access the guide without quitting what you are watching)
It’s too bad there is not a roku app because it’s worth a try.
I’ve been using channels for a while. It works and works good.
However, my year is up in a couple weeks. I’ve been testing out live TV again and it seems to run a lot better now.
I use Apple TV to watch live tv through plex.
What are the known issues with live tv? Maybe I want to keep channels??
Hi @mik3,
According to me, you should keep channels for another year. But, to be honest, I haven’t tested Plex for a month (since I started to use ChannelsDVR) now so I may be out of date
My server version is: 1.20.3.3483
AppleTV version: 7.8 (beta)

Seeking shifting does not work with LiveTV or recording in progress.
Examples:- LiveTV, starting to watch TV at 8:00pm, pause at 8:05pm for 5 minutes. It’s impossible to fast-forward to catch up LiveTV (8:10pm) or go back earlier than 8:05pm. The cursor does move on the timeline but as soon as the playing is resumed it goes back to 8:05pm.
- Same behaviour with Recording in progress. Even if I start from the beginning. It’s not possible to rewind/fast forward. Let’s say the recording started at 8:00pm, I start to watch it at 8:30pm from the beginning. It’s not possible to bypass any commercials, it brings me back at the minute I was before trying to FF (or RW) Very frustrating.
There is another (2 years-old) thread speaking for seeking problem. One of the Plex employees (who is very active BTW), said that it seems to be a known server bug, but almost 6 laters, AFAIK, I still do not see any improvements.
The 10 seconds jumps do work though.
-
Overlapping scheduled recordings are not working properly.
Let’s stay I want to record a game which starts at 8:00pm and should end at 10:00pm but I add 1h extra to be sure to cover overtimes. Trying to rw/ff even the 10s jump after 10:00 make the player hangs forever. Moreover, if you quit and try to play it again, it’s not possible. Plex does not show the menu. “Starts from beginning, Starts at x minutes…”. It brings you to LiveTV directly. The recording does not show up in the library until it finishes.
-
Top option menu does not always work. (The menu which display what’s next, or other channels programs). It often displays the last movie information I watched. It eventually resets itself but I cannot tell when and how.
EDIT: I have just updated the server and the client to
My server version is: 1.20.5.3600
AppleTV version: 7.10 (beta)
- Seeking shifting does work with LiveTV. I can rewind/fast forward as expected (at least with AppleTV, not web player).
All other bugs still remain.
I forgot two other things that Plex still does not have but Channels does.
- Preview on seeking. With Plex, you need to wait for a recording to complete to get the thumbnails generated. (It means no preview for LiveTV). It’s not very user-friendly when you want to skip commercials.
- Fast switching channels. It takes ~5s with Plex. it’s almost instant with ChannelsDVR.
I’m back to using Channels DVR. I’m now using the local content option to import movies and TV shows.
Channels now offers M3U for live tv. Which is nice.
