The following changelog entry in the recent 1.19.1.2589 update states “Fixed: (Library) Don’t include search results on home screen for libraries which don’t have “include in dashboard” enabled.”
I thought my server had a bug for a few days before realizing this came from an update. For clarification on what this does, if you have “include in dashboard” disabled in a library you will no longer get search results from that library. This breaks global searching. I have libraries that I don’t want on my dashboard but I definitely want to be able to search within those libraries. For example, I have a dedicated horror library that I now no longer receive search results from. For instance, if I search Friday the 13th I no longer receive results for the collection or movie(s) that are on my server. I don’t want the media within my Horror library showing up on the dashboard or as idle screensaver background art when casting to a TV therefore I have “include in dashboard” disabled. This helps me make sure kids don’t see background/poster art of bloody horror movie scenes. I DO HOWEVER want to be able to search for these items within Plex. I feel like the “Fix” the devs implemented should have been a separate library setting. There should be an option to keep a library out of a dashboard and a separate option/setting to remove it from search results.
Is there anyway to get this change implemented? This breaks the way I use Plex and after searching for days I’ve seen a lot of other frustrated users that are stumbling across this update.
The search from the home page is designed to search items available from the home page, i.e. hubs and pinned libraries. The same thing should happen if you don’t have a library pinned, you can’t search for items in that library either.
You should still be able to search from within the library.
How do you search from the library? On Plex web if I select the library then search I don’t get any results. Here is a video of the problem I am having. There are a couple other servers that are shared with me that have the movie I;m searching in the video so ignore them and watch when my server finds the results, my server is titled Netfitz.
Ah ok, I see what you mean. When you hit enter after typing in the search term, it is still defaulting to “searching all sources” and following the “include on dashboard” option.
For now, if you wait for the drop down to fill in, you should see your expected results in there.
I’ll let the devs know about the issue.
Edit - Actually there is already an issue filed to improve that page with “all results”. It doesn’t provide the expected results.
It STILL doesn’t work for some reason, even if I click on the pinned library, and do a search from within that library (example: searching for “Brock”) it only brings up playlists containing the matching keyword in the playlist title, but it does NOT show any of the video containing the keyword in the Title, Actors, or Summary, or any fields.
I don’t know what you have in your library so I don’t know what you expect to show. One thing is that search does not look in the summary or most of the other fields. Search is still not all inclusive. It works on
Movies, Shows, episodes, artist, albums, tracks, actors, collections, and playlists.
