I'm not able to search for item that are in a library with “include in dashboard” disabled

The recent Plex change log stated: “(Library) Don’t include search results on home screen for libraries which don’t have “include in dashboard” enabled.”

I’ve installed the update and restarted my server but I’m still having this issue. Is anyone else having this issue or know a way I can fix it?

You misunderstood this. This is the intended behaviour.

If you want to search within such a library, you must first switch into it.

So what I’m describing was a bug not the intended behaviour? How would I search within a library then? I’ve attached a video of the problem I’m having for clarification. The name of my server is Netfitz, the movie I search for, in the video, is shared with me by other servers so please note when it pops up under the server titled Netfitz as I search.

Video

My Plex server version is - Version 1.19.1.2621

Which web app are you using? The Public one? https://app.plex.tv
Are you using the web app at all?

I have tried in both the public web app and Plex for Windows and they both behave as expected.

I’ve used the public one at app.plex.tv as well as local 127.0.0.1 (I have a custom CSS stylesheet on these which is why it has a dark theme) I also just tried Plex for windows and I’m not getting any results when I search. With this said, is the video I attached in my previous post not the intended behavior, because your first response made it sound like I was misunderstanding the way the search function worked.

I recorded it in the video but to clarify my question. If I’m logged into my admin Plex account and search for a movie, even when that movie is in a library with “include in dashboard” disabled, it should still come up in the search results? Is this correct?

If this is the intended result how can I fix this bug? If I can provide anymore information on my end please let me know and I will get it to you asap. I’m a little worried as I’ve worked on my Plex library for 4+ hours a day for the last 4 years. Thanks so much for your patience and help!!

Update: I had an old Plex install on my laptop with a couple movies. I upgraded it to the newest build and I’m not having the same problem as I am on my main server. When I search for a movies regardless of if “include in dashboard” is checked within the library settings, Plex still finds the movie. So this does seem to be a bug on my desktop. Can I repair the install and keep all my library settings and metadata that I’ve hand entered. Thanks again!

I am having the same issue. I’m searching with both Plex Web from https://app.plex.tv as well as the program Plex for Windows.

To clarify, I have a library that’s not part of the dashboard. If I go to that library and try to search, the items do show up in the small drop down, but that only displays 3 results maximum. If I press “Enter” to do a full search (trying to see more than 3 results), I just get “No Results. Try a different query.”

I just checked, I too sometimes get results in the drop down but they never show up after hitting Enter to initiate the full search.

I also loaded an older database back up to see if it would fix it but it unfortunately did not.

Going through this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/fshqfl/new_beta_pms_version_available_119125892de7f3266/

It appears that this is the new functionality when you have “include in dashboard” enabled. If enabled, Plex will no longer show search results for those libraries. If this is accurate can we please get two options. One to keep those items of the dashboard and a separate option to keep them out of search results. There are things I don’t want popping up on the dashboard but I definitely still want a global search feature.

I don’t understand why they can remove the global search function.
They can add new option for new function, but not remove old and important function

@OttoKerner Is there any update to this? It’s impossible to search a library that isn’t in the dashboard. I get that the intent is to not have them show up in global search, but the current functionality means there is no way at all to search them.

Please re-add global search option from HOME back… many of us have multiple libraries its impossible to search for a movie or show if a user does not know which library its in.

See Plex global search broken by recent "fix"

tl:dr is that the original intend of the setting was to also be applicable to search, but it wasn’t due to a bug that was recently fixed! However since a lot of users actually use it as a feature we will be changing this in the next beta and get you the behavior you want.

You guys are awesome! This is the only problem I’ve ever had with Plex. I’m happy to hear that you guys are addressing the issue. Thanks again for all the development and hard work!

1.19.2.2673 beta version (just deployed) with a fix for this ; See Plex Media Server

You should now have a Visibility preference and this can be toggled between 3 different states; This should allow you to have it hidden from dashboard only; or dashboard and search if you wish!

Also you don’t need to do any action on the existing Libraries as the previous setting value will be auto migrated.
